XP/Vista/Windows 7 problems

Hi all
I'm having some problems with some old software. It only works on XP not Vista or Windows 7, but my old XP machine has just died but I absolutely need to get my software working on either Vista or 7 asap as I need it for my dissertation which is due in next week.
I have called the company and asked them to send me updated patches/software but they would charge £119 , which I can't afford.
Is there anyway for me to change the settings on Vista or 7 briefly in order that it works as XP so that I can use the software for a week and then get it changed back to Vista settings?
I also have no idea how much it would cost to get XP machine fixed (which I had only resurrected for this software).
Thanks guys

Another option is to install the software on either PC, right click the desktop icon, click properties, click compatibility, choose XP0

And if either of those don't work and you have XP installation disks and a licence you could install Virtualbox on your Win 7 PC and then install XP as a Virtualbox virtual machine.604!0

Or tell us what the software is...0

Its Olympus DS3000 and AS3000. I've looked on their site for patches etc and the ones they suggest don't work.14 projects in 2014: 3/140

What's wrong with the old machine, have you tried the software on the new machine, and if so, what happens? Can you use an alternative?!!

I need to get going, but is the problem that you can't get the sound files off the digital recorders? Or that you can't play them back once on the machine?0

The problem is that the pc doesn;t recognise the device when plugged in, therefore can't get files off it onto pc and can't play sound files on pc.14 projects in 2014: 3/140

The old machine was working fine, then yesterday it opened up the 'open in safe mode' screen and I was distracted and must have pressed the wrong button, now the tower will switch on but no signal is detected by the screen and won't start. It has been saying something about OEM? or C something battery is low - but only intermittently and no idea what that means. Operation has been fine.14 projects in 2014: 3/140
