hiya all, fabby cakes. question for you all please......
1, how can i keep my royal or fondant icing soft and not go completly hard like a brick.? please, answer for both icings
2, if you use gycerine, how much
    thankyou xx
Im now a mum of 4 children. but dont know how to change my username.lol
  • Hi mumof3, when using Royal Icing it needs to be covered as soon as you make it, I use a damp cloth draped over the bowl until I am ready to use it. Not sure about storing it for longer than that. I store fondant in plastic sealed bags, it still goes a bit hard but can be easily kneaded back to being pliable. I find the zip/slider bags better than thin sandwhich bags. HTH

Dont use glycerine, Im sure someone will be along who can help with that

  • Wanted to share my Christmas cakes with you all but they are too big when I paste onto here!

  • If you have tried and they are too big you need to re-size them before posting. I use photobucket and their edit function lets me resize if needed. To be honest so long as they're not wider than the page I think they're fine.

  • Hi Ladies

Hope everyone is ok and not to stressed :o Well just marzipaned three christmas cakes and it got me thinking does everyone else marzipan and ice the same day or do you leave the marzipan to dry?

I always leaver mine to air dry for a couple of days before icing as always worried the oil will come through on to the icing, What are your views? :o

If I haven't left it til the last minute, I'll leave the marzipan for a day or 2, but I generally do leave things til the last invite :o and find it fine to marzipan and ice the same day
