Been a bit of a lurker on this thread, and loving all the cakes!
Thought I might post my Christmas cake for this year :)

That's amazing! I didn't think it was really a cake until I saw the bigger version! :T

  • Hi, lovely to see the Christmas cakes pictures on here. I'm decorating mine this week, just wondering if anyones got many ideas on how to decorate it? I'm not an avid cake maker so can't do anything too complicated but am willing to try if there are easy instructions!

This is the one i made last year (with the help of my boyfriends mum who makes a lot of cakes!)

If anyone could help that would be great.

    Thanks :)

Just wanted to bump this up :)

Slack Alice have a look at the Pink Whisk. She has lots of lovely ideas, and shows you step by step how to cover your cake in marzipan and fondant. Good luck
  • Hi All

Long time lurker with a quick question.

I want to make a christmas cake for my gran, but not the fruit variety.

I have looked at the BBC Good Food Vanilla cake and like the look of it.

Very stupid question but how to do fill the cake with the jam etc?

As you can tell i am a novice.

    Hi DanielleNic,

If it's a sponge cake which I assume it is just use a sharp bread knife to cut the cake into either 2 halves or thirds. Half is easiest although the tricky bit is keeping it level. Then simply spread your chosen filling and put the other half of the cake back on top.
  • Thank you.

Told you it was a stupid question. ;)

Not a stupid question. We all start out somewhere and if you don't know how to do something you ask. I'm quite sure I've asked millions of very obvious questions! It's nice to have a thread where you can ask things and get advice from those with experience.
