Hi ladies just popped on for a bit of advice, I am baking cupcakes for a party tomorrow I have done my vanilla ones no problems, but my chocolate ones have all shrunk away from the paper and look awful - not sure what the problem is as its the same receipe as the vanilla just substitued a couple of spoons of flour for cocoa powder, any ideas? I'm going to have to start again but not sure what to do lol

im not sure. but when i want to add cocoa to a recipe, i tend to swap it for sugar, rather than flour

perhaps dropping the flour meant they were too liquid so more evaporation occurred and they shrunk? (sorry, im part way through a chemistry A level, so try to think 'sciency' at all opportunities lol)

  • Whenever that's happened with me I've underfilled the cake cases - if you did a separate batch is it possible you measured it out differently into the cases?

I've done my Christmas cake today, first time I've tried anything like this so I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out.

Hi Sophie! they're not pants! They're lovely. I love the paintball one. You should see my first cake. I found a pic of it the other day. Oh my gosh, it looked rubbish compared to the ones I do now.
Welcome to the thread, and keep posting. I love looking at cakes :D
Wow! That wedding cake is beautiful!
  • Hi, lovely to see the Christmas cakes pictures on here. I'm decorating mine this week, just wondering if anyones got many ideas on how to decorate it? I'm not an avid cake maker so can't do anything too complicated but am willing to try if there are easy instructions!

This is the one i made last year (with the help of my boyfriends mum who makes a lot of cakes!)

If anyone could help that would be great.

    Thanks :)
