I fancy having a go at Cake Pops (never made them before!)
I have seen the silverspoon candy melt things in the supermarkets, so will get some of those. I'm thinking about doing snowmen cake pops (snowmens heads anyway).
Can anyone give me any advice? I just need to make a moist cake, then crumble it up and mix it together with some buttercream, roll into balls and put in freezer to firm up a bit, then dip in the candy melts...is that right?

That's pretty much it Zippy! I had a look on Bakerella's website. There's a videoclip of her making them. I used a Madeira cake then crumbled it up, mixed with buttercream, I put mine in the fridge. Also, of you're putting them onto sticks, dip the stick into the coating by about half an inch before you put the ball on to help it stick. The Bakerella clip is worth a look.

The people who have used to silver spoon buttons have said they don't have the same finish as candy melts, and take longer to set. I've not tried them yet though.0

Zippy you've more patience thsn me! I made te cake, crumbled te cake, mixed in the frosting and thought "what a flipping mess" and decided it was a total waste of good cake, time and effort so the whole lot went in the bin and vowed never to bother again! So now have to find an alternative sensible use for a bag of candy melts and lolly sticks! By the way I bought the cake pops book on kindle and I can't believe how much candy melt you need to use! Ridiculously expensive for a mouthful of cake. They do look good but I think I'll stick to normal cakes in future.0

I have made them before using chocolate (and coloured white chocolate to suit.)
Only tried it once but I put too much icing into the "pop" - more cake next time! They make an interesting alternative to truffles, especially if you get some of those mini-cake cases so you don't have to worry too much about dipping it in choc perfectly.0 -

Thanks for those Maggibaking - I'll be making Christmas cupcakes as presents for my staff this year - I have 8 lots to make and want them to be varied so they will definitely make an appearance!
I have been playing with my new Kenwood - I can't sit for very long at the minute as my back is playing me up - and I've come up with these for my aunt's card playing friends supper this evening. I've had the cutters for a while and was just waiting for the right occasion to use them.0
