Hi guys and girls, happy new year to you all. haven't been here for a while.

Good news is that I got a Breville mixer for xmas from my wonderful hubby. It is brilliant and here is the first cake I made with it, it was for a friends daughters 13th birthday - it went down very well!!

  • Hi everyone! Id like to make a Tardis cake (3d, not flat) or my sons birthday at the beginning of April. Ive made him one before and it was literally hilarious, I ran out of money and time and ended up painting it blue with food colouring, using shop bought loaf cakes as i ran out of time and it was too fat, not tall enough and extremely wonky. :rotfl: My son liked it though bless him! Id like to make one that actually looks like the tardis hehe but all the cake decorating tips etc on the net completely confuddle me! Would anyone whos perhaps made one before tell me a good cake and buttercream recipe, post a 'shopping list' of what ingredients (type of icing etc) and tools id need and where to get them from please? Im so confused lol! :)

  • Hi everyone.

This is my first giant cupcake - it was a bit overcooked but next time I'll adjust cooking times so should be better.

  • could i ask some advice please?:o

its a friends birthday next month
i was thinking of buying this cake pops book for her

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cake-Pops-Angie-Dudley/dp/0811876373/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326019176&sr=8-1

she is an experienced baker (unlike myself:o)

i was wanting to put together a sort of cake pops hamper for her
(i know she hasnt tried to make these yet)

    is that a good book?
and can you point me in the right direction for supplies like sticks and candy melts (if thats what i should be buying)
and what else could i put in there? icing pens/sprinkly things etc

ideally i would like so she doesnt have to buy anything to make them, she has of course all actual cake making supplies (flour sugar etc)

    thank you:)

I bought that book for my daughter for Christmas and she is an experienced cake maker. She has made cake pops before but this gives you more ideas.

The only place, apart from online, that I have found Candy Melts is Hobbycraft although most supermarkets now sell Silver Spoon melts which are similar but don't have the range of colours. My daughter buys her sticks from ebay, but <<<<<whispers>>>>> she also uses the coffee stirrers from Maccy Dees  Most supermarkets have also started selling quite a good range of sprinkles and cake decorations too, but you will get more variety online.

    Hope this helps.
  • thank you

i was having a look around, lakeland do this, is this the coating?
    http://www.lakeland.co.uk/15471/Simply-Melt-Toffee-Flavour

    they do different flavours

and would this be useful, or another machine thats used a few times and then stashed in a cupboard?

    Hi Midnightraven!

I bought this book and it's lovely. Well put together and whilst being good for Cake Pops is great to look at too! I found the instructions easy to follow and the pictures are good.

I bought my sticks from ebay from this seller I got the paper ones. I got Candy Melts from Cakes Cookies and Crafts but only because I was placing an order with them anyway. Hobbycraft sell them cheaper but I also used the Silver Spoon buttons which taste fantastic. You only get Orange or Strawberry so your much more limited with your colours than with the Candy Melts.

I also got little food grade cellophane bags to put them in for giving to people.

    Hope this helps a little.
