Im a cake newbie, really want to make more cupcakes, it has been costing me a fortune buying cupcakes for birthdays etc as I lurve them
Can anyone recommend a good buttercream recipe? my last few have either been horrendously sweet or too soft, also how do you fill the centre of cakes?? If there are any books you could recommend that would be great
Some of the cakes on here are amazing
I'd highly recommend the humming bird bakery 'cake days' book, it's the pink one that came out this year. i much prefer it to the first one. the buttercream recipe (they call it vanilla frosting) in there is amazing! I'd highly recommend using a stand mixer (eg. kenwood chef or kitchen aid) or atlest an electric hand whisk/beater to make it. it gets it much smoother and lighter. Also, most/all recipes call for some milk. I'd never add it all at once as I tend to find it usually makes it too soft and runny0 -

I love this book to! Only complaint is a wish it was laid out like the other hummingbird book in sections such as 'cupcakes', 'pies' etc rather than occasions as its fiddly to find what your looking for. The recipes in both book are excellent though.
Also recommend reading baking blogs, these are next on my list nommm...0 -

Thoroughly enjoyed watching The Great British Bake Off tonight....some lovely looking cupcakes and cakes, felt sorry for the poor lad whose cake ended up on the floor. Thought at the end of the programme they would of mentioned the recipes could be found on their website, but no such luck !0

anyone know where you can get the cupcake bouquet stand the bloke used. It was egg shaped with little lips which you insert into the cupcakes.0 -

I got a cupcake bouquet for my dd, it was 7 plastic cups on a cake board, each cake was wrapped with tissue and holographic wrapping paper, then placed in the cup, then the board and cups were wrapped the same way, it looked stunning yet was so simpleThrifty Gifty Money Making =£280 Sealed pot challenge 1192 Toluna = 77339 Bingoport = £10 redeemed + 33470 -
I use a plastic pot with seven cups in it for cupcake bouquets. Then line the plastic cups with tissue paper.0
