    Hi bobbis mummy,

I use half Trex and half butter and a bit less icing sugar than you.

For 12 cupcakes I will use roughly (depending on the style of piping sometimes I can get more!) 500g icing sugar, 167g Trex and 167g butter.

I'd always use real unsalted bitter for this and not marg as I think Mary might make it too soft. I use stork for making the cake though :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, think will mix up your quantity as need to have enough for the middle of the cupcake plus pipe the top - thinking of using my wilton 1m. Gonna have a look at you tube for some ideas on how to decorate!!

    Hi Bobbis Mummy!

I used my 1M and just piped around the top of the cupcake. I've also done piped roses on top and used a 1A to pipe the one above.

For the bottom you can sugarpaste it. Just turn it upside down and ice it like a normal cake then turn it back the right way before putting the top on.

Good plan thanks re bottom, do you stick it with slightly warmed jam please??

Thank you everyone for all your help, not a one time visitor - been a lurker for a while admiring all your hard work!!;)

Wow a few days of not popping in and what a busy lot you have been! Lovely creations all.
bobbis mummy i would suggest a layer of buttercream to help icing stick to bottom of giant cupcake. put the buttercream on and try and get as smooth as poss then pop it in fridge for a while before icing, though i am no expert.
Busy couple weeks for me. cake comp entry:

We go away this Friday Nanamia. Just got another 60 charity cupcakes to do before then! Hoping to get them done tomorrow night but I'm on stand-by for work so might get called in. I'm looking forward to a break from baking to be honest!

Is this when you go to Blackpool Nat? I've had a week off baking this week but got withdrawal symptoms. Got a little cake (6") for my daughters friend for Tuesday start me back in gently but July is busy busy busy with orders. I was supposed to be getting organised this week but haven't! No surprises there!!!

Moosetastic I think your staging looks fab. I did try last year to do it myself- not as fancy as yours but just a plain black background . Unfortunately I'm always on the last minute and end up taking a carpy photo which don't do the cakes justice:( So I look forward to seeing your photos:) x
