wow britbok, loving the cakes, that chocolate one is so simple yet stunning!

monkeymagic, thank you!! :o dont know how good I'll be or how busy I'll get but at least everything will be above board so to speak. wouldn't a half baseball just with the red piping be enough?, like this http://www.wilton.com/idea/Baseball-Cake Are nets used in Baseball? Or could you do a small ball sitting in a glove?

Amy, good luck for making the 21st cake, I would say keep it simple, something like this - http://www.flickr.com/photos/katiescakesuk/4500153402/ or http://www.flickr.com/photos/applegumkitchen/5250423349/in/photostream/ you can buy the toppers and flowers already made on Ebay if you dont want to go to the expense of buying the cutters and things, and you can get the diamante 21 as well from there.

So, my great nephews 1st bithday cake is all done ready for the party tomorrow, here it is -

Lovely cakes britbok! Especially loving the cupcake boquet. Can I ask how you did it? I'd love to try one but not sure where to start! x

Thanks for the lovely words everyone, am thinking of putting some butterflies on the square cake. Nanamia it is ganache, hope they taste good and that everyone is happy with them.

Nat82 the bouquet is a polystyrene ball, take two cocktail sticks and put them into the ball, just a little bit apart and then put the cupcake onto the sticks, I just finished it off with gold paper between the cakes, it is a little fiddly but worth it

awww you are all too kind to me really :blushing: thank you awesome, the lightning mcqueen is just sugarpaste again, the red is all one piece, then I just cut out the windows and lights in white and coloured the back windows with liquid silver colouring and put silver glitter on the lights. then just cut the numbers and lightnings out of yellow and the wheels went on last. made it saturday so it had chance to harden, kept it on parchment paper so it wouldnt stick, and then just used edible glue to stick it to the cake today.

thank you for your compliment, it means a lot to me, im surprised too looking back at some of my earlier creations. next step is to get my hubby to start taking some professional looking pics, instead of me snapping away on my phone! lol :rotfl:

Monkeymagic, im so sorry, ive just looked back and you're right, you did say basketball!! really need my eyes testing!! this one looks quite cool, with the criss cross around the bottom http://natcakeartist.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/basketball-cakes/

thanks moosetastic, that is quite cool. However, as is my way I have gone off on a tangent since last post and am thinking of cake in shape of basketball shirt with mini cake pop type basketballs round the edge. watching you tube to see how hard they look to do :o

Britbok I love the cupcake bouquet it looks gorgeous and as for ganache well it looks brilliant, it's the one thing I'm useless at!
Moosetastic the lightning McQueen is fab! It looks really great!
Amysb86 I did this cake for a friend at work who asked if I could decorate a fruit cake she'd made for her Mum's 80th. I like it because it's pretty and nice and simple.
