Wow, that's lovely! Will only be doing 1 tier though as it will only be for my parents and my sister and I really. Thanks

Wow Nat I just knew you were selling yourself short. I love love love you DSs christening cake (I'm a less is more girl) I think it's perfect:)
Your anniversary cupcakes are striking and very professional. And the grandad cake is just gorgeous very very tasteful:)
Hope you've had time to put your feet up today!!

Becs I love your lemon daisy cake can't believe it was your first attempt that's amazing.

Rachel good luck with the cake:) your parents are going to love it. Knowing all the thought and love that's gone into it. You could do a very plain white cake with white and royal blue flowers (plunge cutters) like Becs suggested and tie in tiny silver balls edible decorations and royal blue ribbon.

Nat82 those orange cupacakes are gorgeous. Congrats moosetastic on going legit :T. well after my disaster when 1st cake didnt rise, made another one which was much better, though all bit rushed so bit gutted as could have done better i think. here is the finished product.

i have been asked to make a basketball cake. looked on google images and theres hundreds. i was thinking of half ball in half a net if you know what i mean but cant think of how to do the 'string' for the net. has anyone got one of those sugracraft guns? are they any good? just thinking maybe that could produce the string then i woud just need to criss cross it to make a type of net? any suggestions gratefully received.
:wall:Trying to get a grip

Thank you for your help, everyone.
I think I'm going to do a normal sponge cake (would this be ok? Any tips?) with white icing and then the blue and white flowers. Going to find out what flowers they had and possibly attempt at a similar style to go on the cake.
Like the idea of the silver balls so will probably do that. I like the quilting effect that people use but I don't want to go too mad and have it look too much.

I've been looking at youtube videos on icing. Do I need to do anything to the cake before I put the icing on?

    Thanks

Rachel90 - if you are using sugarpaste (ready to roll) icing, then you will need to crumb coat the cake with buttercream. This stops any crumbs escaping onto your icing and gives the sugarpaste something to stick to.

Monkeymagic - your cake is gorgeous! Well done! Would you be able to create the string effect using Royal icing and pipig it?
