Hiya awesome, the white icing is white sugarpaste, cut into circles to fit (i used my tala circle cutters). As for getting them level with the top, no idea!! lol I just laid the white circles on the cake and voila, this is how they looked, and then I just piped a little water icing on to make the patterns once I had put the little rosebuds and leaves on.

So peeps, just to let you all know, I am taking the plunge and registering my cakes as a business, been in touch with the local council today, going to get it all sorted and get my food reg and then the skies the limit really!!! I'm mega excited and terrified at the same time!! Wish me luck!! :)

thanks murie and nat82, its quite scary but hoping for it to be ok! Have received my business cards today, and got the forms to fill in from the council. They are coming to give me an advisory visit first and then will have full inspection, then just got to get my food hygiene cert. It seems ok and not too much of a hassle, so hopefully it will go smoothly. Will post my progress on here!

Got last 3 cakes for rainbow cake to cook today, and to make my lightning mcqueen in icing, so will post pics later :)

moosetastic - your bella is lovely! and good luck with your new business, really exciting!

Haven't made any cakes for ages, want to make some cupcakes to take into work on monday because it's my birthday tuesday. Last time I tried to pipe ganache it just wouldn't work, it wouldn't come out in the shape of the nozzle, it just came out in bits...if that makes sense...does anybody know why? I really don't like butter cream...I could use choc fudge icing but you can't pipe it...hmmmm!

I've not used that recipe yet Monkeymagic so can't help unfortunately. But I use a madeira recipe and it's only about two inches deep when it's been evened off etc and it works ok. If I need a deeper cake I make two and stack them! Don't know if that helps at all:)

How exciting Moosetastic, will be watching closely to see how you are getting on. Wishing you all the very best, we are all here if you need us.

Nat hope you are ok, bet your shattered is the christening tomorrow? Have a lovely lovely day. I spent most of my DGD1 blubbering, think they are such emotional occasions. Can't wait to see your piccies but know you've got your hands full:)

    Birthday cake for today:)

    Hiya Ladies,

I am more of a lurker than a poster on these boards nowadays, and I need a bit of advice!

I have been asked to bake my friends daughters 18th birthday cake (A giant cupcake) and 30 smaller cupcakes to go with it, and I normally only do chocolate or white icing. However, she is a girly girl, so I have bought some hot pink cases and was going to do some cakeys with pink icing and some with white.

I have got a few of the sugar flair gels, which are FAB, but I need a colouring thats going to get me hot pink. Any recommendations at all? I have two cake supply shops which I am visiting tomorrow, and was thinkign of pickign up the Claret colour Sugar Flair gel.

Any help is grately appreciated xxx

This shows the varying sugarflair paste colours which might be of help?

    Hi Nanamia!

Christening was today! I was up until 2am finishing off the cakes but they all turned our great. I wasn't totally happy with the christening cake as I felt rushed but the lemon and chocolate tasted amazing! and got good feedback from the cupcakes and the birthday cake!

    Will post pics soon! x
