Slice down the middleIt never seems right to do madeira in two tins!I seriously love madeira lol

I slice down the middle too do a quick brush with sugar syrup and thin layer of jam and buttercream.
Makeyourmummyproud sorry I missed your question earlier:( the feathers are from my local cake decorating shop. But they say bridal on the packet so I think they must be similar to the craft things you get in hobbycraft etc. they go into,a posy pick so don't actually interfer with the cake.
I made invitations for a masquerade party a couple of years ago they had feathers on too wasn't making cakes then but could easily have transferred the design onto a cake:)
Sounds like you are well rid ShegirlDon't get too overtired tho cos your DS would rather have a happy mummy on his big day:) Can wait to see the photos none of us are professionals. We are learning from each other:)

Hi everyone
I'm having a cake nightmare, I can whip up a bog standard victoria sponge but the creative decorating side eludes me.
I bought a silicon castle cake mould from Aldi to make a cake for my son's birthday (next month). I'm having some problems with how to decorate it. I'm no good at proper icing that you have to roll out, can I get away with buttercream icing on the walls or would that be too sickly? I've got flags, dragons and knights to dress it with but struggling to think of alternatives to ice it.
Any help would be very appreciated0 -

You can never go wrong with buttercreamRoll out icing is a pain and doesn't taste as good tbh
Right, pics of my funny attempt at ds birthday cake will be up shortly:D It's got black instead of grey and I've had to make more letters after breaking some and erm it's not exactly straight:rotfl:If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
:o:o:o:o:o:o:o
Well,I took some great photos of the cake before the party earlier, then while taking photos of ds realised that I hadn't actualy taken the earlier photos (new camera):o So,I've taken some of it after we've eaten some instead:rotfl:
It looked so much better earlier, not only because it was a whole cake LOL but with the pearly number toppers and green star on wires also I hadn't accidently broke the letter R off the word birthday then:rotfl:
So,umm, here is the cake without the toppers,a broken smudged letter or two and partially demolished...please ignore the bit of icing sugar on my dining table:o we had a picnic party so I didn't rush to get the last bits after repairing the cake off:o

Honestly,it really did look better before.Still not brilliant but, have to say,it's the best cake I've ever tasted -white chocolate icing and butter cream with strawberry jam and vanilla sponge cake, soft, moist, with a somehow cooling strawberry and chocolate zing in the middle:DIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
