Hiya Sk00bie1 looks like its just me and you:-)
Your cakes look fab clever girl, noody would guess it was your first attempt they look brill.
"the mums" will be delighted I would be too. What a very thoughtful gift :-)
Hehe The mums are my mum and mother in law to be.
Thanks for the comments, I was surprised how easy piping was tbh.
Next time will be quicker I'm sure. I think I prefer the Victoria sponge cupcakes myself, so light and fluffyI'll know to only fill the cases 1/4 to 1/3 full though, had a bit of an overspill on the first batch
Do you think I should wrap them up some more or are the boxes enough? Don't want them to go stale!Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger No. 26 :hello:XStitch to do list:-- Birth Sampler -- Christmas Angel -- Mum's Xmas Stitch -- Christmas decs 3 & 4 -- Xmas Bird ---- Snowflake Sonata -- Be Jolly -- JE Unicorn -- Start HAED!!! --0 -
Theyll be fine til the morning in their boxes Sk00bie1 in a cool place. If its gonna be any longer pop them in a tin/sealed box n transfer them back into your lovely boxes when you are ready to deliver :-)
We are all learning all the time even those who've been baking years and years. Picking up tips here and there or tweaking recipes.
If you need any advice there is usually some kind soul on here who can help out. A fountain of knowledge between them :-) Keep it up tho u r obviously a natural :-)The secret of Christmas

Can you tell me how you get the multi coloured icing, or is that a silly question? It looks sooo beautiful
Hi thanks,
to get rainbow icing.
1. choose about 4 colours and then colour your buttercream in seperate bowls in each of your chosen colours.
2. place first colour in your piping bag, then then next right on top, then so on till all 4 colours are in piping bag,
3, start piping!!! like magic the colours will merge as you pipe and make unique combinations of rainbow colours. The first bit of icing will be dominate in the first colour but say by your second cupcake you will see the rainbow come through.
You can use any combo of colours from pastels to brights. I think I have done many many different colour palates and every time people are amazed.0 -
Hi Bindi
Your figure looks really good on the cake well done had a look at the link you posted think I am going to have a go. Did you but flesh coloured sugarpaste or colour it yourself?
Could I also ask where did you get your decs from on your valentines cakes
Thanks
Hi I coloured my own fondant. I did add tylo to it to harden the fondant so that it was more stable for modeling.
And decs??? love heart sweets, foiled wrapped choc hearts i picked up from a supermarket but cant remember which one, the glitter hearts I made and the choc teddy is a lolly I picked up from homebargains. hth0 -
just a heads up
I went to Tescos on friday and noticed that they have started to do a range of ready made ready to bake cake mixes, pizza doughs, cookie doughs, frostings etc in the fridge section.
work out expensive though!0 -
Thanks Bindiboo.
I spent loads of £ on e*ay last night, getting myself equipped. You've all inspired me to try and have a proper go at this cake decorating malarkey lol. You all make it look so easy, and what you produce is so amazing! I can't wait for all my goodies to arrive so I can start. Pictures, good or bad, will be put up when i do my first lot.0 -
Hi all,
Thought I'd share some pics of cupcakes made on Thursday. We had a few orders from work for mothers day
There are strawberry, chocolate and chocolate and chilli. Quite a few firsts... First time i'd made chocolate and chilli and they were a hit! First time I'd used a 2D nozzle for roses or normal swirls and first time I'd tried the two-tone buttercream. Oh and first time I'd used half butter and half Trex for buttercream. I found it to be much softer than all butter but still held up to piping and transportation perfectly. Somehow tasted less heavy too which I liked.
I use less icing sugar in my frosting than most: 250g butter/Trex mixed and 375g icing sugar. Makes a lighter frosting which isn't so tooth-achingly sweet and because I flavour a lot of my buttercreams it helps the flavour to come through without just tasting really sweet, if that makes sense!

I always look at this thread and love all the cakes and the ideas. Have just baked and iced my first batch of cupcakes. Didn't turn out too bad (not sure how you add pictures). Just need to practice which will keep everyone at work happy as they are the testers0
