Right Nat I've googled the cake examples and see what you mean. I wouldn't recommend using the dummy now I've seen the huddle. You can definitely do this it's nowhere near as daunting as you think. Make, buttercream and fondant a Madeira ( or similar) then you've got three days to complete the figures. There are no real face to do so they are pretty similar football strip etc just a change of colouring (skin and hair) You can do this? When is DH birthday? Wish I was near enough to help :-)

I've every faith think you are gonna surprise yourself.

    Thank you so much nanamia!

I've had another look too and think I can get away with what you're suggesting - making the cake and icing it, then I don't really need to make figures as such. I'm really only going to be making the body parts - heads, bodies, shorts, legs - and placing them on the cake and I can take a few days to do all that. I feel a bit more confident about it now! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I really want to pull this off because I know he'll love it! His birthday is the 29th March but it will need to be finished on the 28th as I'm nightshift on the 28th and the last thing I'll want to do when I get home is finish decorating a cake!!!

    Thanks again x

Pleasure Nat :-) you could get away with baking your cake Friday or Saturday next week then you've got enough time to crumb coat and ice before playtime. Can't wait now to hear how you are getting on and off course see the pictures of the finished cake:-)

Moontastic sounds a bit like my house (baking your own cake- least you know it'll be yummy) I was frantically getting two cake orders out on my birthday last year- last minute, over tired and bad tempered ( note to self---be prepared come July )

hi everyone im interested in the half lurpak, half trex method for buttercream. i normally use stork but hate how 1) - it doesnt stay in shape for very long and 2) - its yellow so you never get a true colour.

can you let me know the quantity of each and icing sugar that you use?

ps bindiboo that cake looks amazing!!

It's been really quiet on here the last few days, I've been lurking and lonely. I've not brought myself to try the half trex buttercream but imagine it'll be the same - 4oz butter, 4oz Trex, 1lb icing sugar.

I've finished an order for another celebration cake today but couldn't bring myself to chance the trex buttercream :(
I need to try it on my guinea pigs first (DH and family)

Love your cake Bindboo looks great :-) and yummy.

    I'm here Nanamia :)

Just popping in to show you all the cupcakes I've just finished for Mother's day! Fingers crossed the mum's love them...

I used up 2 packets of Victoria sponge mix I had left over, and then made a cupcake recipe I found on the net, it was a learning experience :roftl:

    lemon icing

    photo-6.jpg
    vanilla icing

    ready to go!

Will they be alright in the boxes overnight or should I wrap them further?

My first try at piping was a success, thanks to all your tips :) I couldn't find the ready made icing so ended up making me own, next time I'm going to be try different cupcake flavours I think.

Loving the cakes you've posted as usual, they always inspire me :)
