Problem with cyclists

You suspect wrong. Again you are making wild assumptions on things I never actually said. Where have I said it's the OP's fault???
Now you are also making silly comparisions that also don't provide the OP with the solution.
Read his post again. His car is continually getting scratched. The parents are not interested. At no point have I said that is OK.
I am stating facts. Kids play out - fact. They always will - fact. His car is in a public place - fact.
So he asks for a solution to prevent it happening. Clearly this has to be something within his own control. Therefore, there are three possible solutions to prevent it happening:
1) park somewhere else
2) err park somewhere else
3 errr park somewhere else
I have never said it's the op's fault. I have never said the kids should be allowed to cause any damage to property. I have never said the parents reactions are fair or reasonable.
I have told him what he needs to do to stop it happening, park on his own private property.
Now jump down off your high horse.
When some kids damage your property, whilst it can SOMETIMES be appropriate to move your car, it seems that its your only answer.
Let the little darlings do what they want without any correction and it will continue.
Now, if thats the best advice you can give the OP I think the best thing you can do is get out a bit more and learn to live in the real world.
Grow a spine and stand up for what's right! It doesn't matter where your car is parked, NO ONE has the right to damage it.
I think your attitude is a disgrace and contributes to the root cause of the problem.
I genuinely don't mean to be offensive because I find your posts sincere but I'm struggling to accept your attitude towards wanton damage.

Your missing the point. His question is "What can 'I' do about it" The important word in his question is "I".
He can't make the kids better cyclist (there's no suggestion the damage is malicious, just kids being clumbsy). He can't change the parents attitude, he can't wave a magic wand over the scratch and make it go away.
He CAN, park somewhere else, he CAN park on his own property, He CAN move house, He CAN wrap his car in bubble wrap....
It's probably not the answer he wants to hear, but it's the only answer that is completely within his own control to stop it happening again.
It's got nothing to do with standing up and beating your chest! How does that make a young kid who's just had his stabilisers removed less wobbly on his bike !!!!!!????
Surely that's not hard to comprehend!!!0 -
He CAN obtain evidence of the damge, he CAN take the parents to small claims court, he CAN sue the parents for the cost of the damage. Maybe if he takes this steps instead of just rolling over and accepting it as part of kids being kids like you suggest the parents may stand up and realise they do have to take responsibility for their children.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

And I wish him all the luck in the world with that.
But, those are reactive measures to recover the cost of the damage after it's re-occurred. They don't prevent it from being scratched again.
Hence it does not solve his ongoing problem.0 -

Why would it not solve the problem?? If the parents have to dip their hand in their pocket to pay for damages everytime the car is damaged they will soon keep control of their children as they should already be doing so.
So whats your suggestion regarding his pregnant wife being hit by a cyclist, keep her indoors. Maybe the OP should sell the car and give up his job and never leave the house too.
People need to grow a spine and deal with a problem head on not avoid it like you advising. Whilst I appreciate you don't want to be falling out with neighbours it doesn't mean you should be taken for a mug.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Hi everyone to answer some of the posts
1) We have permit parking, I pay money to park in my street. This would mean I have the right to park there ??
2) Pedestrians use that path also, so the kids swerve around them and bang into the car. Other times its kids bumping into the car trying to avoid other children playing.
3) I have CCTV cameras up for protection of my house and car and my family, why would this be a problem ?
4) This is a park less then 2 streets away, parents just let them play out do what they want, no they are not chav families, just families with lots of children...0 -
Again we have a thread where the OP has only posted twice but the thread is already 50 posts long because the rest of you are arguing! The advice should be that if the OP's car is parked legitimately outside his/her house and it is being damaged by inconsiderate kids on bikes, train a CCTV camera on your car and if/when damage occurs, identify the culprit(s) and send the parent's a bill. If they don't pay up, take them to court... simples. Have you ever watched Judge Judy? She deals with cases like this the way they should be dealt with!
Wish we had our own judy judy :T you lot would be sick of seeing me on that program

As you have three instances of accidents involving pedestrians, including a pregnant woman, plus repeated damage to your car I would contact the local police and hopefully they can explain to the parents that a response of "they're just playing" is not adequate. They will also be able to advise on any further action you can take.
Fitting a sensitive car alarm might help. This would draw attention to their behaviour.0 -

Hillarious!
People need to sue the pants off each other haha yes... great. You go for it!! I bet the OP doesn't! You do like to make ridiculous assumptions about people don't you.
It's such a shame there are down trodden miserable folk like you around it really is. No wonder we are turning more and more like the yanks is it.0
