I didn't have to in my hardware firewall but it might be worth a try.

Believe the SIPGATE website FAQs has info on port forwarding.

Just to confirm, 1899 is a normal SIP service? So I can use it under linux?

And there isn't a sipgate service that offers free calls like 1899?
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

The reason why I use Sipgate, is because they give you a FREE geographical phone number. e.g. 01242. And you don't have to have you own local std code. So if you receive/make most calls mostly to e.g London, you can, if you wish, have a London 020 code.

I have registered my free sipgate 01242 (Cheltenham) number with Call1899, so when I make my totally FREE landline calls, people see my 01242 number. When they call me back, it comes through to my Sipgate software :D

I have just given Telewest 30 days notice to cancel my landline, which means, I will now be saving over £150 per year! :D

This is now my telephone system.....

    all for FREE :D
Many thanks for contributors of this exciting thread. I have two points I need clarification:

1)I can see the point of using VoIP calls with 1899. However, what's the main advantage of using SIPgate for incoming calls? Is it to get rid of BT line? Is it to make it easier/cheaper for clients/friends to call you?

2)Also, is it possible for my overseas friends/family members to use my 1899 account to make phone calls to the UK for free using 1899 VoIP software?

    1) Yes and Yes. (I would say both are main advantages).

    2) Yes. But it is also possible for them to make chargeable calls anywhere in the world too.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Can anyone recomend a good cheap head set & mike for me to test the VOIP out. I bought a cheap set years ago, and the results with this h/set where rubbish. I assume it is the head set that is making it rubbish. Every one seems to be singing its praises
    Thanks
  • Try this offer at Lidl, seems a quality product @ £9.99 starting tomorrow. I know there are very basic mics/earpiece at ebuyer for under a £ but by the time you add p&p you may be better off buying something a bit more substantial from Lidls as I will be...... :money:

    Head set & Mic

    Hope this helps.
  • Better still here they are.
