  • I am wanting to end my DL membership. Looking at their T&Cs it appears I can leave with 1 months notice if they have increased their prices by certain amounts. Does anyone know when they last increased their prices?

    Quote from their T&Cs?

    15.2 Increase in membership fees
a At any time, you can end your membership if we give you notice under A18 (‘Changing your membership fees and this agreement’) of an increase in your membership fee of more than either 1% above the rate of inflation according to the Retail Prices Index or 3%, whichever is
    higher.
b You must give us notice in writing in line with A2 ‘Notice’. The period of notice is one calendar month for Flexible membership or three calendar months for Standard membership

    £36.00 joining fee.

So I'm thinking of joining DL in Westbury Bristol. I'm been shown round on Saturday, and in fairness they told me the price over the phone pretty much when asked, as matches Helen224488's photo (corporate 3m £91.80/m). The question is do they negotiate at all?

For obvious reasons, they haven't increased their prices enough to allow immediate exits without penalty.
You'll just have to give three months notice...

I tried to get them to negotiate but they wouldn't budge on the price. Got some guest passes thrown in though so worth a go ;)
  • NHS staff do get considerable discounts along with other big corporations. If you dont ask, you wont get.

I am looking for somewhere to go swimming.

Do DL generally keep their pools open for general swimming til late? Can anyone post up a sample timetable?

I cannot find a pool near me that has 8-10pm ish swimming every night.

Also is it any cheaper to just do swimming and no gym?

At my local DL (Sidcup) the club is open until 11pm on weekdays, 10pm at the weekend. I think the indoor pool needs to be vacated about half an hour before the club closes, although it may be less - not sure.

The opening hours of the outdoor pool vary across the year - currently 6am-10pm weekdays and 7am-9pm weekends.

There is no swim-only membership. There's Health & Fitness (gym, classes and swimming) and Full/Racquets (as above + tennis/squash/badminton - whatever is available at the local club). In my case the difference in price between the 2 levels is very small.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

Wow, I had no idea it was that expensive! The gym I go to is £20 a month, no pool though, but there is a pay as you go council pool locally I use instead.
  • They offer good facilities. And their staff are helpful

    But
They are extortionately more expensive for what they offer.
Their monthly fee is very high
Their joining fee (really?!) is very very high
Guest passes are very high (£35 for one adult & one child to use pool)
Kids activities, personal training, extras (like Tennis etc) are extremely expensive

Another point to note is they bind you to a 3-month break clause - a thinly veiled ploy to extract more money from customers should they have the temerity to cancel their membership

Put simply, you can get better cheaper, much
