  • The two-week free trial is available to anyone in our area so that wasn't a freebie offered to us. It looks like they aren't backing down from the sign-up fee, which is a shame given I know several couples who have had both waived. What a waste of money (and a loss on their part as they could have had around £1,300 from us over the coming year)

My issue is not just with the fee itself (although I do find it extortionate and unnecessary given their already-high membership fees, which I'm told also rise steadily over the months) but also the underhand way it was added on - I always check the amount on the card machine before paying, but I'm sure some people could have been conned out of £100 they didn't agree to - and as it's added to the contract after the signatures, very difficult to prove they didn't sign for it and therefore extremely difficult to recover, I'd imagine.

They told us they would be cancelling everything but I will be contacting my bank to confirm we have not given permission for any direct debits to go to them.
  • I pay 86 pounds a month. I live in Suffolk. It started at 79 a month, four years ago. My adult friend (45) got a membership for 57 at the same DL?? I was not happy- I have since emailed the membership team.
  • Apols for bumping old thread but my question really follows on form the posts in this thread.

I'm currently thinking about joining the Edinburgh Newhaven David Lloyd to get gym, pool and tennis in one package.

Anyone ever had any success haggling the price down, or getting a more flexible membership option? It's not cheap, and I'm not that comfortable with committing to a full year in advance, especially at these prices.

You will not get concessions on the monthly price or term from the big gyms, unless they already offer a flexible deal (which are usually a higher cost per month).

Think about it from their point of view. If they offer it to one person they risk peeing off the rest of their members who are paying more, then end up complaining or leaving.

Perhaps start by joining a cheaper gym now, if you find you use it a lot you can join a better one in the future.
  • If you have one of a range of insurance policies with Vitality ( private medical, life, serious illness cover etc. ) you will get either 40 or 50 percent discount off the Platinum membership at many of David Lloyd’s gyms. This is all linked to Vitality’s health and wellbeing incentives and even though this can still make the membership more expensive than the likes of Puregym the facilities at DL are usually far better.

Another bump. Looking at joining DL Bristol 1 platinum corporate adult and 2 kids (5&4).

What are the kids facilities like at DL gyms - are there many kids in the classes etc and will they be kept entertained.

What are chances of waiving the joining fee / guest passes thrown in?

Before any of you join, you may be interested in reading my thread that I created named
    "David Lloyd serving notice incorrectly"

    I'd suggest being very careful.
  • Hello, £70 for Club Plus membership (+£20 for my kid) with no joining fee and nothing to pay until May 1st is what I was offered at Reading. And I think £85 for platinum membership. It is 12 month contract ofcourse  with 14 days trial from April 12th when they open indoor. Their Outdoor classes are open from today😎 Please let me know if anyone is paying less.
