For descaling a shower head you could use any plain old cheap brown vinegar, would be much cheaper than using the clear vinegar

I also use cheapo brown in my washing machine as a clothes softener, as others say, it does not make you smell like a chip shop

Thanks Faway - didn't know you could do that (though don't know why that never occured to me :o).

I do use white vinegar as fabric conditioner, so when I've run out of that I'll give good old malt a whirl.

  • In the St Stephens Tesco in Hull, there has been a sigh on the shelf edge label for a few weeks staing that they will have white vinegar back in store on 09/10. Dont know why. I use it neat to wipe my worktops down. Its also good for cleaning cat litter trays, just tip some white vinegar in the tray and swill around then rinse. the vinegar nuetralises the cat wee.
  • Kim and Aggie have got a lot to answer for, with this shortage of white vinegar!! I use it with bicarb down my kitchen sink, once the fizzing stops you can pour some boiling water down the sink.

  • I am trying to do a tesco on-line shop and cannot find white or clear distilled vinegar on the site, I bet they have a conspiracy going now that people want/need to be more thrifty, if they don't stock it we'll have to pay more for their chemical based cleaners instead!

Has anyone else found it on-line?

Where does one buy white vinegar?

I've searched the supermarkets but all i can find is white malt vinegar or white wine vinegar. None of which are the right thing.

    Thanks

I thought you can only get brown malt vinegar

Morrisons sell distilled white vinegar in a big plastic bottle (possibly 5L).
Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

White malt is "white vinegar" :) It's malt vinegar that has been distilled to remove any impurities. What are you going to use it for?
