White vinegar looks more 'cleany' and smells slightly less, but I use the cheapy brown malt for everything and do not find that it stains; also the smell does not linger at all!

For 'fabric conditioner' I use one part vinegar to 3 parts water in a 1.5 litre bottle with a few drops of fragrance or essential oil - I use one or 2 cups of the mixture per wash. It hasn't stained anything and i do use it for whites as well as coloureds.

If you are near to a Chinese supermarket then they often have 5 litre containers of white vinegar, and also large containers of bicarbonate of soda.

I have seen a post to say that Makro has cheap white vinegar, but have not been there myself.
  • Argh!

I washed towels and the shower curtain last night and used white vinegar in the conditioner drawer

The shower curtain has come up beautifully...

But the towels smell of vinegar! Argggghhh nooo and my mother is coming to stay tonight and they are the best towels and I haven't got time to rewash them as I'm in work now!

Why did this happen, and more importantly how can I stop them smelling of vinegar before tonight!!
  • Hi,

I was having a nose on your boards for some inspiration for meals when I came across this thread.

I followed Kim & Aggies method of cleaning by using washing soda chrystals in the draw where powder goes, then put on hotest wash you can, after that's finished put half ltr of white vinegar into drum, close door then put on another hot wash. Bought machine up lovely and it's now so quite I have to keep going to seeif it's still on...

I bought 5 litres of white vinegar this week from Makro for £2.49. I did notice another brand for £4.99 for 5 litres and wonder what the difference is. It surely can't be twice as good can it?
  • Hi, I want to use vinegar to clean my baby bottle warmer and steam steriliser. Can I use it neat or do I need to dilute the vinegar?

    Thanks.

I would dilute 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water.

Have a look at these sites for other cleaning ideas using vinegar.

You need distilled white vinegar. Usually found with the malt vinegar, where all pickles and condiments are.
Will go and see if i can find a link for you.
