I have been reading all the posts about cleaning products and have been out to my local sainsbury's and bought some vinegar.
The vinegar I've bought is clear and the label says it is "Sarsons distilled malt vinegar". Is this "white vinegar", i.e. the same stuff that everybody has been raving about on here? I want to use it as a fabric condtioner but don't want to end up smelling like a chippy!!!
Thanks,
mancbird

Hi,
I bought some distilled stuff by mistake once, it didn't clean like your normal white vinegar, but I didn't use it in the laundry
Edit: My white vinegar is scarily labelled as "non brewed condiment" if that helps?"She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"

I don't think it is the same, sorry...
i find asian/chinese supermarkets are the best place to get white vinegar...0 -
This is OK to use its still ethanoic acid just made from a chemical distillation rather than brewed.
non-brewed condiment type vinegar is also produced in this way.
By the time its dry the smell is gone honest0 -
Is non brewed condment ok to use for cleaning, then? I know that it is no good for making pickles.
I thought that distilled malt vinegar WAS white vinegar.
Very confused now!0 -
Wikipedia says the brewed variety is okay for cleaning.
Non brewed condiment is fake vinegar.0 -
To clarify - AFAIK anything brewed or distilled is "real" vinegar, but I found it not good for cleaning.
My "non brewed condiment" is chemical carp, I wouldn't use it on food, but it seems to be a better cleaner.

White vinegar = distilled malt vinegar.
Non-brewed condiment comes from the Victorian temperance movement, who had obvious issues with vinegar, which is a by-product of brewing. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
