I found mine (5l for about £3) in the local 'Indian' spice shop. It wasn't on display so I asked and they kept it out back. Maybe the person who couldn't find it at the Chinese shop could ask and they may keep it out back as well? As to Ceridwen, do you have a catering suppliers nearby? Or make friends with the local pub/cafe/b&b and ask if they can get it when they go to the wholesalers.

I Hope I'm writing this in the right place, I know there are a lot of people who use white vinegar for cleaning etc.

In the May issue of Sainbury's magazine they have an article on "15 minutes a day to a dust free home" (they haven't seen my place!) Anyway they advocate the use of "green clean" items such as bicarb and white vinegar. It's a good article, but it led me to wonder why they don't stock larger qty's of either of this. So I emailed their customer service.

Their reponse was this
Thank you for your email. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the cleaning article in our May magazine. I understand you would like to know if we plan to stock vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in larger sizes.

Please be assured that we do listen to our customers and try to stock the things they want to buy. We do not currently sell larger sizes of these products in any of our stores. This is because our buyers have not anticipated a demand for them. To date, I am not aware that we have had any other requests to stock them. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I will let our buying team know of your interest. If more customers request that we stock these sizes, it is possible they may appear on our shelves in future.

Thank you once again for contacting us. I hope you will continue to use and enjoy Sainsbury’s products and services
I know people on this forum are often wondering where to buy these things but obviously we're not making enough noise! so Sainsbury's email is this customerservice(AT)sainsburys.co.uk and I'm sure the other major supermarkets have a similar setup. It'd be great to be able to buy 5l drums of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda by the kilo along with our regular shop.

I hope this hasn't been said before - I have searched the forums and couldn't find any mention... I was searching for "where to buy white vinegar" and that kind of thing, but please move/delete if I'm duplicating.
Thanks

When's that on, then? TV listings said they were going to show it this week, but it wasn't on. It's the only reason I watched!

A fan! I don't know. It got postponed due to the bank charges ruling. I haven't heard anything from the programme team yet.

Hi

I buy malt vinegar( for cleaning the kettle) and the WM in either Ldl or Aldi. Bought 6 bottles for about 22/29p each. I do buy the white vinegar but keep it to dilute in a spray bottle and dont use that much HTH

I agree, Auntie Noo. I was in Morrisons a couple of hours ago and was noticing that they sell malt (brown) vinegar in 5l containers for £2.25, but the white stuff only comes in the small bottles which work out far more expensive.

I buy white vinegar in 5 litre containers for £1.99 in the Oriental Supermarket. In mainstream shops it is 89 pence for a 500ml bottle!
• I too emailed them today.
