I've added your thread to the main thread on white vinegar where you'll find lots of posts on where to buy it.

Quick question - I'm going to run my WM on the hottest wash with a cup of white vinegar in the soap dispenser to clean it all out, but should I do something with soda crystals at the same time or is it not necessary? If so, what quantity and where?

Sorry if I''m a bit off 'vinegar' topic but are soda crystals what you add to the water tank to soften the water ?
I'm sure my mum added them to her wash but couldn't swear to it. Our waters very hard, the central heating pipes even rattle.............lol

Well OH is at work so I have put a load of washing on using the vinegar instead of fabric conditioner.

Had to wait for him not to be here as he cant stand the smell of vinegar, I know if he was here and knew he would say the washing smelt of vinegar so I will test it later.

Have also just done the taps with the vinegar and they are all sparkly!!

Soda crystals will soften the water and help stop limescale building up - but you may want to try a descaler first as soda crystals won't really get rid of existing deposits.

Getting back on topic, Dri-Pak white vinegar is available from Wilko and Tesco are now doing there own version of cleaning white vinegar.
  • As someone relatively new to this forum is there a list somewhere of all the various uses for white vinegar?

I have a bottle of distilled malt vinegar, it's clear, will that do? Found it in the cellar. Also found a huge quantity of ready spiced.....might be best to save that for the tomato chutney!
