Well the cooker, general kitchen stuff and I wanted to try it out in the fabric softener drawer, thus ruling out traditional malt.

Thats such a good idea. Its really good for cleaning stainless steel.

I made the mistake of using white vinegar but without my specs on, failed to notice that the label said 'with added spices, suitable for pickling'. It worked but my house smelt like downwind of a poor quality chippy!!

As Fantastico says any vinegar will work, but obviously don't use expensive wine vinegar or balsamic ;)

Surely if I put brown malt in the washing machine it'll dye the clothes?

You'll get lots of ideas from the main vinegar thread so I've added your post to it. You'll need to go back to the beginning to see all the answers.

    Happy cleaning!

I tried the white vinegar on my bathroom taps which are very furred up with limescale.

Soaked cotton wool in the vinegar and wrapped it round the taps. Left it for two hours came back and expected it to wipe clean away.

Did it hell. Didnt do anything at all. Just stunk the bathroom out.

I got this tip from kim and aggie.

So what am I doing wrong then?

    Some farm shops sell it
Cash & carry type retailers, ethnic supermarkets, some people even sell it on Ebay. DriPak white vinegar is 99p a bottle in Wilkinsons, well it was last time I bought it.
