Buyer demanding I leave items in house..

This was my original thought, they they thought my oven was built in. But they specifically told my solicitor that I must leave the `free standing oven' so that kind of writes that idea off. Im going to give them a ring later and see what they say.
Cant believe this has made 3 pages now.. haha.
Hmmm...take your point...but am still wondering if its a Barratt employee "lower down the food chain" that is taking this stance.
If its not that - then maybe what the problem is that they've found "amateurs" are disconnecting freestanding cookers and Barratt don't want to be liable for someone who doesnt know what they are doing being the person who disconnected said cooker from the cookerpoint (and maybe made it unsafe in the first place).
That would then equal - do you have a (well-qualified) electrician mate who owes you a favour and could prove to Barratt that he really does know what he's doing and would be the person doing the disconnecting?
If you don't - then I expect you've fallen victim to "know nothing amateurs" who have disconnected a freestanding cooker before now and caused an incoming housebuyer to have an accident because of it and that housebuyer then got onto Barratt for having injured them. It would have been very difficult for Barratt to prove that they werent liable - and it had been the "amateur DIY-er" who had "sold" the house to them. This may be what the cause of your problems is then - ie some irresponsible person that they dealt with previously and it caused them grief in the process.
My feeling is now that its not a case of Barratt trying to get their hands on your cooker for nowt - more likely to be the case that they are trying to protect themselves from the risk of being sued for injuring an incoming homebuyer for a house - because they've been caused a problem before by someone else...
Looks like you are going to have leave that cooker - exactly as it is and no swopping and changing it around or mucking it up or anything. Its not going to cost you anything to leave it - as you were only going to give it away anyway. So just explain to that relative of yours "Sorry - no can do after all. Nothing to do with me - its down to Barratts have obviously been sued before because of some irresponsible home-owner back a while back".
Its simply not worth getting your knickers in a twist about something that hasnt cost you any money in the event.0 -
