Buyer demanding I leave items in house..

I suspect this has arisen because of a jobsworth blindly following "company policy".
A LOT of houses these days have built-in cookers and Barratt have probably found that the odd toe-rag owner has taken the cooker out and off with them - even though they ARE built-in and therefore obviously and legally get left in the house.
Therefore Barratts probably came up with some "company policy" to automatically ask people to leave the cooker - in order to avoid people taking out built-in cookers (ie not in order to get their hands on peoples freestanding cookers).
So - in that case - I would be trying to find a Barratts employee who was high enough ranking + with some commonsense and saying to them "I expect your policy is x and I understand why - but I guess no-one has realised that mine is a freestanding cooker and are just applying this policy - even though its not correct in MY case. So - I just thought I'd let you know that my cooker is freestanding and I'm willing to send you a photo of it to prove the fact. So - could you point this out to your employee and ask them to delete this request. Thank you."
The way you contact a firm in such cases depends on whether you can present a neat/articulate/well-typed letter or you have a good Voice to use over the phone. Personally - I use my Voice over the phone - as its a nice clear middle-class/middle-aged voice (ie a good one to use in circumstances like this). If I had a different voice - then I'd use a neatly-typed letter instead.
This was my original thought, they they thought my oven was built in. But they specifically told my solicitor that I must leave the `free standing oven' so that kind of writes that idea off. Im going to give them a ring later and see what they say.
Cant believe this has made 3 pages now.. haha.0 -
Stand on your point of principle, then. Nobody can make you look at things from another point of view. You have free choice.
Please - do let us know how it all turns out, who blinked first and how much money that party lost by so doing!0 -

I will, but I want to make it clear - im not going to lose the house by not letting them have the damn cooker. I can imagine my Mrs's face now if I told her it had all fallen through due to me sticking by my guns.. haha. Im willing to leave it, but I just dont like being pushed into anything by these guys...0 -
I'd feel the same as you - really peed off! I wouldn't want to leave it, but I suspect I might feel forced to. Grrrrr. Very very annoying.
Have you asked them to actually pay for it, explaining that you promised it to someone?
I wonder if the term 'cooker' includes all the shelves in it, etc;)
I agree they're absolute muppets and I think they're bang out of order. Should be paying you for it. That would be fair. Even £50 for it would be alright.

Buy your brother a new cooker with a guarantee. Leave them the old one. I would be tempted not to clean it from now on though.0

I think you should try asking them for an increase in sale price as the price didn't include the cooker. They'll tell you to go away and you'll have to climb down eventually. Just try to do so gracefully.0

Ooo a few more supporters! Thanks guys haha.
Its annoying for sure, the fact they are telling me they will REDUCE there offer if I dont leave it is really winding me up! Its not part of the house, so why should I let them have it for nothing - if anything they should be giving me MORE money for it!0 -

I've not read through about what point you're at in the paperwork
You can be stubborn if you want - and you probably should be - but are you prepared to not buy their house at all and go and find another one?
It's def worth pushing them - after all they are not the only people selling houses.
But in a years time if no one else has bought your house (and bear in mind they might well have a buyer who would still buy your house.... even if not thorugh them) then how would you feel?
I suspect part of me would want to wind them up quite a lot.0 -
have they said how much they are going to reduce the price of the house by?? how much is a second hand free standing cooker worth??Life is like a box of chocolates........
too much all at once and you start to feel just a little sick...._ _pale_
