Checked my online balance this morning. Balance £0 but available credit down by £3000. Have spoiken to CS and amongst transactions are £1200 to call centre somewhere! Will be speaking to Fraud dept in a couple of minutes when their line opens at 9:00.
I don't use the card at garages (got fuelcard for that) and don't use it in ATMs. Only used it in shops a few times, mostly used for internet shopping/Paypal (balance £0 checked).
Wish me luck.

Card is blocked and cut up and Fraud Confirmation letter is on the way for me to sign. All Transactions are Canadian apparently!
Worrying, but should be OK now, hopefully.

Just discovered a fraudulent transaction on my smile Visa card today - £250 to some trashy catalogue company that I've never heard of. And I always thought I was so careful. What a pain! Card now blocked and I'll have to wait for the replacement.0

purplepatch wrote:My husband's debit card has been cloned. First Direct told us to report it to the police who either think it is to do with local petrol station or atm withdrawals near his workplace in City of London (one of his work colleagues has had exact same thing happen, so that seems more likely). £200 cash withdrawal on 3/1/07 in Italy went through but FD stopped the other 6 transactions they tried. Apparently the money will be returned to us once FD and the police have completed their investigation - goodness knows how long that will take. Annoying thing is that FD phoned us on 2/1/07 evening when we were out and left a message on the answerphone asking us to contact them which we did next day - so they were aware on 2/1 but still let the dodgy transaction through on 3/1.
Just to add that the money was returned to our account within ten days by FD, so quite impressed with that. DH had to send his card back to them cut in half, to prove that the actual card wasn't stolen first though.0 -
Yet another Petrol Stations ATM & PIN pad doctored. Possibly 3000 victims, so if you live in or have visited HULL, used this Petrol Station then check your statements.
Thousands Hit By Garage Scam.
"One victim said he only learned of the scam when he was contacted by his bank. "They rang me and told me to destroy my card. They said police had told them 3,000 cards had been copied. I was really angry, it's such a sneaky thing to do," he said."

Monexy Box (Today) Saturday 20th:
We hear that the High Street banks are getting tougher on people who are victims of card fraud or ID theft. They are not always covering the losses in full.

Threaded from the BBC web site that documents last Saturday's radio 4 "Moneybox" program is a selection of the Emails sent in response to card fraud. The message I get is that the banks simply "chargeback" the sums involved onto the often innocent "merchant" AND almost NO effort is made to identify and charge the criminals involved.
