    Hi James,

Keep up your good work, trying to make the "nice" people in this world realise what can be done to them (I was in the PO one day, while the old boy two infront of me read his pin number out aloud as he keyed it in !).

The banks just seem to have tried to protect themselves, relying on "chargeback" for any goods transactions that have gone wrong.
Only when there is a self evident major skimming fraud will they admit liability.

    CU

    Harry.

PS Anybody else had trouble getting a refund transaction in a shop when using an EGG card ? - it has happened to me twice and I have had to wip out an alternative for the refund.

I spotted two fraudulent amounts on my egg card a few weeks ago and got the card stopped straight away

My smile card was refused for an internet order this afternoon so I quickly rang the bank. They`re absolutely spot on. There were 15 requests for withdrawals today, all very small amounts. So here we go again

Thank goodness that smile are so quick. My dd lost £2 and then she lost £1500 on her card

I only ever use the smile visa card for internet shopping and smile is my home page, which I check every morning. You have got to be so alert these days

This is spooky! The same thing just happened to me. Tried to use my egg money card shopping yesterday and at the 2nd and 3rd shops it was refused. When we rang egg up they said someone had taken out 1 pound at the same time as I was using it and then (twice) tried to take 700 pounds. Apparently this is a common pattern the thieves use, and so egg's fraud department flagged it up immediately and blocked the card.

Now I have to wait for a new card and pin and I can't earn cashback. GRRR! Have to hand it to egg, though, for being so quick to spot it.

I shred personal items, never write down my PIN, etc, so how could it happen? We visited London last week, could it be that? Also did a lot of Xmas shopping over the internet, but I thought they were all safe sites. These criminals find a way around anything.

Annabee I`ve become a bit `scared` re all this fraud. I really liked the egg money account but haven`t used it since and I have just cut a couple of cards up to close another account with a building society

I am keeping the egg account and will, as usual, use smile for everything but I`m not messing with other banks now. Smile have always been excellent so better the devil I know. I need to get some confidence back otherwise the b***ers have won

I have also done a fair bit of internet shopping lately, christmas and the sales. I took a fair amount of cash out of my current account recently so any petrol purchases etc will be cash from now on

My husband's debit card has been cloned. First Direct told us to report it to the police who either think it is to do with local petrol station or atm withdrawals near his workplace in City of London (one of his work colleagues has had exact same thing happen, so that seems more likely). £200 cash withdrawal on 3/1/07 in Italy went through but FD stopped the other 6 transactions they tried. Apparently the money will be returned to us once FD and the police have completed their investigation - goodness knows how long that will take. Annoying thing is that FD phoned us on 2/1/07 evening when we were out and left a message on the answerphone asking us to contact them which we did next day - so they were aware on 2/1 but still let the dodgy transaction through on 3/1.

I'm actually really scared about this! Mind, I do check my bank everyday, and my creditcard was nearly completely paid off yesterday (£15 of debt left, yay!), but i'm certainly going to be a LOT more careful! Feel sorry for teh hell some of you have had :(

    CHIP & PIN FRAUD ALERT.

What is the point of having a PIN with your credit card?

Fake or tampered ATMs. Fake or tampered PIN Entry Devices.

Keep on signing - you know it makes sense.

Despicable: Post Office Assistant Stole OAPs Cash.

Wonder if card issuers will accuse these OAPs of being negligent with their PINs?

Bet a lot of them would fell miffed if they discovered they could have had a Chip & Signature Card.

    Wow. Interesting reading.

I work for a retailer and in recent months we were instructed not to touch customers cards - we have to get customers to either insert into chip, or swip the card themselves. We are not allowed to touch cards at all. Initially this was difficult out of pure habit but apparently people wore the 'swiping' devices inside the sleeve of the arm, or inside their trousers on their thigh and a supposed card not swipping, that is then rubbed clean could possibly be clonned. Camera's were apparently being worn by cashiers, to record pin numbers.

Hang onto your card, don't just not let it leave your sight, make sure that no one handles it either. I am sure you have the right to demand this.

My OH had his debit card scammed recently. "They" spent £82 on Pizza, then tried another £37 on Pizza and a £30 mobile top up. We got a call from Barclays Fraud Protection and have been issued with a new card. Just need to complete the forms to get the money back.
