Last time i used my barclaycard was at the end of August in London as we were doing the sites etc etc. At the end of Sept my card had been used five times in Brazil for the tune of £1,300, i only knew this had happened as the fraud department at Barclaycard rang up questioning the transactions. Thank God they did. They were excellent as well and the whole process was dealt with in a matter of days.
When i think back to the places i used my card it was only reputable places ( well i assumed they were) IE TGI Fridays, The Tower Of London, London Eye, Fatty Harbuckles,Pizza Express to name a few. At no time did the card leave my site, so as you can imagine the shock when i was called.
In the end i am so glad my Wife suggested using the CC as if it had been down to me i would of just used switch, and i would of been really stuffed.Come on Ilson ....:footie:0 -

You did ask if any others have fallen victim to card fraud recently well here's a few all within the last few months - And a lot more statements will be arriving:
Peterborough
Eastbourne
Black Country
Bromley
Bolton
Inverness
Hampstead - Esther Rantzen.
Makes you think?
I used to work a a BP garage and about 2 months ago we were informed that apparantly thefts of dionne chip and pin machines had been reported by other stores (they simply detatch and can be exchanged with modified units) and so these were to be removed when not in use. I know that this continues not to happen in our garage and think it likely not to in others.0 -
Was reading the thread and have to admit that I got a little scared by all the stories, I know credit card fraud exists, just didn't know how bad it is....
BTW, just wondering whether anyone have watched a program called "The Real Hustle" on the BBC3/4? It was a great program performed by real con people (of course they are not making the living by conning people anymore), it is amazing all different kinds of ways they show you about con and identity/credit card fraud! One quite classic(and I guess it's quite popular out there as well) credit fraud is one of them get a job in a restaurant/ pub/coffee, and wears a card reader around her waist or ankle(covered by clothes so you can't see it), then when she goes to customer and get the card for paying the bill, she just need to incidently drop the card and pick it up, quickly swipe it over the card reader from outside her clothes, and all details they need to clone is recorded in the card reader. And what's make this trick even better is after this she will hand the card back to the customer and say she would bring the card terminal to the table rather than keep holding on the card, so no one will ever suspect a thing!!
It really keeps my eyes wide open watching this programme, and it also shows you how they can get into somebody's house and steal everything with a gym card!0 -
Would agree it's an excellent programme learnt a fair bit from it I knew some, and some are common sense but it shows how gullible & trusting people are.
The guy in the street doing fake market research the other week and people were freely giving bank details and one guy even told him the passwords he uses.
The ID Theft and house break in I thought this week was staged, the girl left fingerprints everywhere and had no idea if anyone would return. It was when she posted her purse and keys through the letter box, that got me. Think it was only set up to show how easy ID theft is when you are a Muppet like the owner and put out Bank & CC Card Statements in the recycling bin.
Did like the free Christmas pressie wrapping service again how gullable are people. But surely Security within the large Shopping Centres wouldn't allow anyone just to set up a stall in the middle of the Centres without checking especially at Christmas.
But the whole programme gives you food for thought.Cheers

Yes my Tesco card has just been done. got a phone call from them last night. Someone had made a charity donation of £3 and then bought some computer stuff straight after. The second time they tried the same routine it was flagged up as dodgy and they rang me. Now waiting for new card and all the fuss of changing all of the payment details with the bank. What a pain. Like someone else said my pc is like fort knox. I can only assume that someone working for a company I've bought from has got the details as I would think that they need the 3 digit number on the back of the card which I blacked out with felt tip ages ago. I could go on but hopefuuly it will be sorted relatively easily and quickly. Hey Ho.0

You can see my posting on a similar theme - it has been going for 3 weeks now and the thief has not even got the correct details for the card: he has got number expirydate and security code. Anybody working in a shop that actually takes your card into their hands can get that.
The names used are not even the name on our "his and hers" cards, but stupid traders keep taking orders over the web.
TESCO DIRECT rumbled what was going on and phoned us (see details on my thread), but with a lot of staff on holiday, our "bank" is having difficulty sorting out "SCUMBAG's" purchases from our legitimate one. Fortunately the fraud started a day or two after our last statement was issued.
I'm not impressed by other traders systems and response to fraud:
