My apologies that you have taken the point I was making about your misinformation that "Disney tickets are included if you stay onsite" the wrong way.
People reading this thread are clearly in some cases newbies to Florida unlike you or me and if pricing up theri dream break may be wrongly assuming that if they book an onsite resort they will then have entry to the Disney parks included

Are you saying you have had Disney tickets included in your base price each time you have been? I am genuinely interested (as I was in my last post that you also took wrongly)

Hope you also have fun, and maybe one day try a villa and compare. they aren't for everyone which I do undertand

Fair enough. I have on two occasions haggled with a travel agent and got tickets included in the price. To be fair, that was a while back and I appreciate would probably not happen these days so i apologise if i have inadvertently misled anyone in that point. On another occasion, our flight was cancelled whilst we were checking in and it was cancelled for 28 hours. I was able to negotiate to extend our stay to include car hire and park tickets and hotel for a few extra nights for no extra cost. That was good one. I think I must just be good at haggling!

We are huge fans of staying on site. It suits us but is not for everyone. We have stayed at five or six onsite hotels now and we love it. We find it so much more convenient BUT that's not to say we don't venture out in the car and explore. Even staying at Disney we do find we need the odd Disney free day and go AWOL for a day here and there.

Thank you for clarifying and indeed you did very well
  • Reading this thread had got me in the mood to go, I went with my family in 2006 we stayed not far from disney and hired a car to take us everywhere, We even were lucky enough to go see the space shuttle Atlantis take off at cape canaveral seriously a once in a lifetime experience, we did all the parks, even did a day in Miami, we also did the air boats and got our photos taken in old fashioned outfits, absolutely the best holiday I have ever been on well worth the 21 year wait, OH and I are talking about going for our honeymoon.

OH and I are talking about going for our honeymoon.

Can highly recommend it as a honeymoon destination...We did three weeks in Florida for our honeymoon (before a week in NYC). We did 5 days at Cocoa beach (sadly the shuttle had been discontinued by the time we went - but we did get to see Juno, at Atlas 5, go up), 2 weeks in Orlando, then a couple of days in Clearwater.

I loved all the parks and stuff, but I was mainly impressed with how beautiful Florida is in its own right - such lovely beaches. I'd quite happily go back and just do a beach holiday without going to the parks. Then there's the food, and the service, and the free stuff (had free deserts everywhere for being on our honeymoon ;))...

I'd also highly recommend swimming with manatees if you can - such an amazing experience.

    Hey all,

Ive been to Florida before with my family - 3 times - I loved it and I know pretty much all the ins and out of the parks, where to go, what to see etc etc

I want to go next summer, August, with my boyfriend so just the 2 of us - I just want to try and find the best deals in terms of flights and accomodation, all the accomodation we know is for 4+ people so I'd like to stay in a condo/villa type of accomidation but I'm struggling to find it for 2

Also, where is the best place to look for flights? I realise I may be too early, but just to get a rough guild

    many thanks

I'm not here to convince you! If you enjoy the full on Disney experience then stick with what you like (we enjoyed it greatly staying onsite, as i also did staying on I Drive many years ago, but preferred the mix of the villa holiday) - that is what a holiday is all about and thankfully we are all different otherwise the same resorts/villas would be very crowded! ;)

Just picked up an amazing deal with Thomas Cook leaving on the 15th September (obv not suitable for kids, but my OH and IO are big kids and can't wait to hit the parks!)

    Return flights direct from Glasgow
7 nights at the Doubletree @ the entrance to Universal Studios
    Car hire

    £580 pp, can't wait :)

We dropped son and gf there for a few days last week (we wanted Disney so stayed at the Swan). They were quite impressed for what they paid- said it was an easy walk to park too. Well, once they got across road, that is.
