  • Oooh lovely, it's even nicer if you poach an egg in the milk after you take the fish out

    POACHED FISH

    Serves 2

    INGREDIENTS

    2 x 250g of white fish
    1 onion
    250ml of milk

    METHOD

Rinse the fish under cold water. Remove any excess water from the fish with some kitchen paper. Run your fingers along the fish and remove any remaining small bones with your thumb and forefinger or a pair of tweezers.

Peel the onion and chop it into tiny pieces.

Put the fish, milk and onion into a frying pan on a medium heat. Cook for 10 minutes until the fish is firm and opaque.

Remove the fish from the pan.

    ADDITIONS AND ALTERNATIVES

Add a bay leaf. Remove it before serving.

Cook the fish in a frying pan with a lid. Put the fish in the pan. Bring the milk to the boil and simmer for 2 mins. Put the lid on and turn the heat off. (Eat with brown bread and butter)

I use the same recipe, but cook mine for 4 or 5 mins in microwave and let stand for 2 or 3 mins.

I have managed to get a good deal on some undyed smoked haddock and was wondering if anyone had any nice recipes that didn't include a white sauce or lots of carbs ( so no fish pie or fishcakes, even though I love both).

    Thank you :)

I was going to say Kedgeree, but that's predominantly rice. However, you can make it with brown rice so that it has complex carbs instead of simple carbs?

I just like to oven bake it with a knob of butter and serve with an egg and green veggies :)

my OH likes it poached in milk and served with lovely fresh brown bread and real butter. he thinks it doesn't need anything else on the plate! Though I am partial to green beans with it.

We have it like this ^^^ just poached in milk with a knob of butter on the fish and then bread and butter to serve with it. Sometimes if feeling a bit more hungry we might do mash and broccoli with it but it's perfectly find on it's own without them.

I love it poached in a little milk. Than get a bag of ready washed spinach and cook in microwave. Top the cooked haddock with cooked spinach and then top with a little grated cheese and brown under the grill. You can also put a poached egg with it. healthy and low carb.
