  • Definitely kedgeree. Although you could get some white fish and prawns and make a fish pie. Jamie Oliver does a nice one where you use creme fraiche for the white sauce. Makes it nice and easy

    Quick supper.

A pack of spinach, some tomatoes, smoked haddock, some creme fraiche and some cheese.

Microwave spinach til wilted. Put in oven proof dish. Add chunks fish (raw). Sliced toms on top or halves if cherry toms. Smear with creme fraiche and sprinkle with cheese (parmesan, gruyere or cheddar). Bake for 20-30 mins in medium oven. If not brown, put under grill for a while.

Serve with boiled potates or with crispy french bread. And a nice glass of chilled white wine if you fancy it.

    Enjoy.

I just pop it in a pyrex casserole with a little water and microwave for around 4 mins. Goes well with Cauli/Brocolli Cheese and new pots.

    Hi marc,

There's an earlier thread with some good ideas for using smoked haddock so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Keep is simple. Poach it in milk and onions, serve with mashed potato and (mushy) peas - my healthy version of "fish 'n' chips". Sometimes less is more.

This chowder is DELICIOUS! everytime I make it I think its ever so tasty. I don't use butter (well maybe a smidgeon :p) but the spinach really makes it. Yum :D

smoked haddock stovie - it will be on the bbc good food sight. Basically it is onions, sliced potatoes, smoked haddock, water and a generous grind of pepper, cooked in one pan on the stovetop, cheap, healthy and delicious.

    Lurker leaping in!! :j

I got about a kilo of yellow smoked haddock off the reduced to clear the other day - I paid less than a quid for it so couldn't resist! So what on earth am I going to do with it?! I've taken it out the freezer so will need to use it as soon as it's defrosted, later today I would've thought. I want to make stuff then freeze it, so any recipes or ideas gratefully received.

    Thanks all!
