    PREMIER.
The best options in my opinion are a capped rate as prices dont rise on it but still may come down, unlikely i know but a good safety net as on a fixed rate you would miss out on it. On the offers that are cheaper at the moment like trackers or online deals the rate will increase when the company goes up. A lot of people want to move from Scottish Power just now but the same thing is more than likely to happen with every supplier. Hope that helps

Yes, I agree that one should expect others variable rates tariffs to increase shortly (as I have posted elsewhere) ... but SP have already announced their price increase. ;)

See last weeks MSE email - Martin makes a lot of sense in the advice he gave then :)

Can I ask, what made you decide on OES12 3 months ago? ?

    Hi Premier,
I put this through a price comparison site and according to the detail I fed in, that was the tarrif it came out with!
As I say, I really was going into this blind!
(as the tag says - I'm a newbie, please cut me some slack!)

I actually signed up for it in February, but didn't complete/move in to the property till april.

I take from the response that this wasn't a good recommendation?

    :/
  • I know SP have done it first, so first thought is to move BUT why move elsewhere if they may rise and possibly more than SP?
And SP offer rates capped at November 201 rates til June 2013 to prevent it happening again. A huge problem in my eyes is media reprting it as blanket increase when it may actually effect the minority of customers (as a lot will be on capped, fixed or online energy 14)
  • cheapest isnt always best (short term) as prices go up way more than down so instead of deal that was good at the time deal with security would have been better, comparison sites cant take changes in the market into account so is really short term

Thanks.I only switched to SP three months ago to an online energy saver 12.Still not had my £30 switch as of yet:( I wonder if I switch again I will lose this payment. Now seriously looking at reducing consumption as I cant see prices ever coming down again.

I only switched to SP around that time, I havent had my first bill yet, and i had forgotton about my £30....dohhh.....I'll have to look to see if ive had it...

Regardless though, I still think Ive made the right decision, I should get £30 for this switch anyway...

My move to EDF fixed is the cheapest fixed contract for me....cheaper than SP's fixed, but understandably, as SP's fixed is no doubt based on their August increase...

At the time it WAS a good recommendation, I, like you, saw it as a good price, but obviously didnt forsee this massive increase, which is 30% and 50% on my Online Saver 12 prices, which is way more than the average they announced...

Here`s my last two posts from the other SP thread:

I have finally sorted out this whole sorry mess with a phone call to SP, which amazingly got me through to an advisor in about a minute.

I requested that they transfer me to OES14 straightaway and I gave them up to date meter readings and that`s it all done and dusted and no penalty for changing tariffs.

From the very start when increased prices were announced, I went to energyhelpline and entered my yearly usage and the biggest saving going from my current OES12 was to OES14 followed by their now defunct tariff Oct 2012.

I wasn`t interested in a capped/fixed because they have racked up these prices out of all proportion.

I would have preferred to wait to near the end of July but you never know if the tariff you`re after will still be around by then.

Just had a follow up call from SP customer service after contacting them about two hours ago requesting a change of tariff.

New OES14 tariff confirmed from today and bill for old OES12 exactly right from my meter readings I gave today.

Also a cut in my DD from next month.

Forget all the nonsense of fixing, go for the biggest savings that you find on the comparison sites.
The other 5 still have to hike so if SP comes out on top today, it`ll still be on top when the other 5 increase but even more so.

EDF's fixed price isnt "racked up" as you say, its only £70 more than my SP OES12 was.........

Re OES14(with increase) ......surely it CAN'T be LESS than OES12.....

I find it hard to believe with the August 1st increase, any SP tariff can come out on top...It certainly did'nt for me....

Addendum..Just checked on Moneysupermarket, and for me SP's OES14 comes 13th in the list....the EDF fixed tariff that Ive changed to, comes 8th....(about £40 difference)
