Scottish Power price rise! SHOCKED!

...The only thing I'm concerned about is how guaranteed are the prices? If I move to npower, is there any guarantee they won't hike their prices in a few months and it just hasn't been announced yet?
Unless you are looking at capped/fixed rate tariffs, you should be expecting all variable rate tariffs to increase by a similar amount already announced by Scottish Power. Such increases I would expect to be announced in days or weeks, rather than months."Now to trolling as a concept. .... The prices SP told the press were average price increases.
You are looking at a specific instance. There were some on variable rates who were not affected at all.
How can some on variable rates not be affected at all, were those rates already at the height of the proposed rise.....and why are the increase rates different for the various plans...are they affectively bringing all these plans upto the same rate(depending where you are in the country)...Couponing....."every little hurts"

The prices on the comparison sites already include the price announcements made.
If you switch today, it could be August by the time the switch actually occurs.
If as you say "The prices on the comparison sites already include the price announcements made".,its made it much harder to get a comparison, as although most people know how much they pay, most wont know how much they actually use....so if you put in how much you pay now, it convets that to the "after August 1st" tariff, and then tells you that theres loads of "capped prices" are cheaper.......of course they are,(using this method) as you arent getting a true figure of what you actually use.......
The only way to do this now is to put in your actual usage.....(which i realise has always been a better option, but not always convenient.)Couponing....."every little hurts"

It`s vital to put in your actual usage to get a accurate result and I have found https://www.energyhelpline.com to be the most precise and up to date website.
Once you have found the "best" provider, see if you can get cashback from other sources.
ie: topcashback etc.0 -

Yes, with the pending increase from SP, its really the only way.
Ive gone back on to Uswitch and put in my consumption for last year...16000 gas and 4400 electricity...it now tells me I am paying £1250 a year, which obviously is taken at the "after August 1st rate" as I am only paying £80 a month....(£960 a year), so from this it looks as though if i dont change, I will be paying around £300 a year more(providing the rate stays the same) which equates to just over a 30% increase
If I switch to one of the EDF fixed tarrifs(fixed until September 2012) I will only pay £1021 a year(regardless of any price rises or DROPS)
I will go to www.energyhelpline.com as you suggest and see what their figures say...
I'll just add my results on the end of this message.
Energy helpline says almost the same, and to verify my tariff, I compared the tariff that they used(at top of list) and it is the same as SP have indicated mine will be after August 1st..
So it looks as though I am going to move, but still unsure as to whether SP are going to penalise me for moving, I'll have to check the email again...Couponing....."every little hurts"

I found this in the email
"If you don't think these prices are right for you, please contact us and we will be happy to
discuss your options with you. You are also free to end your agreement by changing
your supplier*. For clear, impartial advice about switching suppliers please contact Consumer Direct."
The above * leads you down to the bottom of the email, where in very small type is the next paragraph
*If you notify us that you wish to cancel your agreement before 1st August 2011 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not apply the price increase or the cancellation fee for your product. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices.
So it looks from this, that if you follow the above Terms, they won't penalise you for moving early....
Do you think I've got this right...Couponing....."every little hurts"

What tariff were you on?
e.g. OES14 was not affected by the latest price increases ... but it is a variable tariff so may change at some later date.
I would be very surprised that any capped/fixed rate was the cheapest if you include variable rate tariffs too, but the one mentioned may be the cheapest of the capped/fixed rates. With this tariff, you have the surety of knowing that the price will not rise above the cap over the term of the dealAll CC & Other Debts - Paid Off

Online Energy Saver 3 - I've stuck with this tariff a VERY long time but with a rise of 85% on the daily charge I think it's time to move on. At least with a rise in p/kWh I could have tried to use less electricity!

But surely 365 days muliplied by your daily increase of roughly 13p a day is only around £40 a year......which is nothing in the present rate rise....mine is £300 a year.....If this is your total increase...I would accept it.....
altho i do notice a 0.66p rise in your gas(roughly 20%) which on my consumption of 16000 a year will also add another £100 to your bill..Couponing....."every little hurts"

Because SP didn't put the price up.
