Scottish Power price rise! SHOCKED!

If as you say "The prices on the comparison sites already include the price announcements made".,its made it much harder to get a comparison, as although most people know how much they pay, most wont know how much they actually use....so if you put in how much you pay now, it convets that to the "after August 1st" tariff, and then tells you that theres loads of "capped prices" are cheaper.......of course they are,(using this method) as you arent getting a true figure of what you actually use.......
The only way to do this now is to put in your actual usage.....(which i realise has always been a better option, but not always convenient.)
The advice here is always use your anticipated annual consumption in kWh on a comparison site to get accurate output.
If you don't know your annual consumption in kWh, call your existing supplier

Because SP didn't put the price up.
Use a comparison site to see where they come for you
Ive done that, and with the proposed increase, I am going to be paying £250 more ....I searched for a fixed plan and found one which is only £70 more than my existing tariff(before the hike),(£180 less than SP's price for me) so ive gone for that for the next 15 months or so, hopefully the Middle East will be soted by then, and we might see some price reductions.
I informed SP i was leaving, and the guy who replied mentioned i was on a tariff that didnt end until Feb2012(was that a threat) ........maybe he hasnt seen the "move without penalty" paragraph in the email...Couponing....."every little hurts"
Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

HI there,
I'm really confused by all this.
Pretty new to all the home owning stuff and a lot of this is going over my head - but what I do know, is that I want off of Scottish Power (for the principle at the very least!)
I was on the online saver 12 plan for 3months now and have started looking at the money supermarket site for price comparisons, but am drawing a blank, as the fixed tarrifs have standing charges and all this two tier stuff really is making no sense at all?
As I say, being new to the home owning, I've not really had chance to run up any proper energy bills, but living on my own, so will truly be a low energy user...
I've looked over the faq and am still none the wiser... If anyone could point me in the right direction of what I should be looking for (or just a good deal!) - I'd be really appreciative!!!
Many thanks!0 -
If you will be a very low user, you might look at something like Ebico.0

For me people saying it is as high 50,60,80% etc.. is ridiculous, this is a case of people getting a good deal for a period of time then moaning that a good deal becomes a bad one, if this isn't the reason for the outrage it must be that they don't understand their tariff.
One example of this is people saying they are having a huge increase (more than the 10% on elec and 19% that Scottish Power are going up by) on Online Energy Saver 11,the tariff guarantees to be a minimum of 2% below standard direct debit rates until November 2011, Scottish Power ARE adhering to that as customers are going up as of 1st August BUT not to a price above -2% of standard rates - if don't want to see an increase like that don't opt for a tracker option which you are told may increase, go for a fixed or capped rate0 -

Can I ask, what made you decide on OES12 3 months ago? ?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... PREMIER.
The best options in my opinion are a capped rate as prices dont rise on it but still may come down, unlikely i know but a good safety net as on a fixed rate you would miss out on it. On the offers that are cheaper at the moment like trackers or online deals the rate will increase when the company goes up. A lot of people want to move from Scottish Power just now but the same thing is more than likely to happen with every supplier. Hope that helps0
