I tried to close it as soon as I paid it off and the reply was that it would be closed after 2 months statements with a 0 balance. Something to do with trailing interest, was much relieved not to have any :D

I had a 0% offer from them this month along with a reduction in the interest rate by 2%, cheers bit late for that :rotfl:

  • Well done on the Egg card :T

Your end is so close now, I think the counting down the days is a fab idea, I just think it might depress me if I put it into days, it would be in four figures :o

Have started the book, really enjoying it :T
    Just keep swimming!

  • Well my wee Westie is back from the groomers, smelling like a baby and looking very pretty. £24 down, for the first time ever that does not mean my housekeeping is short this week, or I have to rob hubby's cash tin and find a way to pay back later. Oh no, doggy's haircuts are now in budget and the money was safely tucked away in an envelope next to the envelope with the credit card money. Which reminds me, I need to take £20.00 back out of the CC envelope as the trousers ordered for DD don't fit and are going back.

So looks like a trip to York is on the cards after all for next week  Shoes and trousers still to get.

Back to the dog, I am wondering how on earth I ended up with one that needs it's haircut every 8 weeks, my sisters only ever needed doing about twice a year! Good job we love her :D

My money musings have taken a new twist overnight. Took it in to my head yesterday that to save up £8000 and then hand it over in a lump sum to pay the mortgage shortfall is going to hurt very muchly. Never mind the temptation to dip into some time over the next 3 years.

So I am looking into overpaying my interest free mortgage and bringing the amount owed down by £8000 over the three years instead. First idea was to do it over 2 years while we still have full tax credits before daughter leaves school. but that would basically take all the available money and not leave any to save. so plan b is to pay £200 a month extra to mortgage for next 35 months and supplement it with £500 of our January divi (pay dividends quarterly) for next two years. Which should bring us to the grand total of £8000 paid to the mortgage to allow for the shortfall. Then when the endowment matures we might actually even get a wee bit extra back as that is working on the worst case scenario figures.

Only paying £200 still leaves £200+ to save each month. Though will try and put more than that away if I can.

So now I need to talk to my mortgage provider and see if it's doable without penalties.

I really need to do some more money musings at some point as I have realised I am at the moment entrirely reliant on my 22yr old daughters rent money at the moment for all my plans to work. That is not very sensible as being 22 she could conceviably fly the nest and take her rent money with her at anytime over the next 3 years  So my next mission when feeling brave enough is try and work out how I would survive without it!

Not today though, worked my brain enough :rotfl:

  • Mmph thought I'd been very brave and clever and actually picked up the phone to talk to bank about the mortgage. Not a problem overpaying and she gave me an account number for me to make payments to. Just tried setting up a standing order to it and get the message it's an invalid account number  Think I might just pop into branch to sort it out next time I'm in town. No rush, not planning on starting till December.

After reading something on here yesterday re leaving BG and charges I emailed them.

    Just got this reply -

    Dear Mrs xxxxxx

Thank you for your enquiry sent yesterday.

I am sorry you had to contact us about the £30 cancellation fee applied to your electricity account; I have logged a complaint to record your dissatisfaction.

The £30 fee was applied in error and I have subsequently removed it under the Ofgem guidelines, this will now show on your final bill as a reversal.

Please accept my apologies and if you ever do wish to come back to British Gas we will be more than happy to bring your electricity supply back.

Please contact us should you need any help in the future and thank you for contacting British Gas.

    Kind regards

    :T

  • What a carry on! I found myself in town today so popped into the Halifax to sort out the standing order problem. No problem, they said, we can do that for you. So standing order was set up and off I went on my way quite happily. Things got better when I spotted some bird food I know my blackbirds will love on special offer in a shop. Then discovered not only Lurpack butter on offer at 2 for £2.50 but Andrex toilet rolls on offer too. When I got home with my wares the kids were so happy, we've not had Lurpack for months!:rotfl:

So then I pop online just to double check everything was in order with the bank and see that all they accomplished in branch was to set up a direct debit from my current account to another of my savings accounts, not going anywhere near my mortgage  I think I should get a job in the bank the woman they have in there is a joke!

So back on the phone, which in hidsight I should have just done yesterday as soon as I had the problem and they have, fingers crossed, got it all set up now. Will be showing up tomorrow so we will see for sure then. Silver lining to the cloud was getting to speak to a lovely Irishman on the phone :D

  • No idea where my head was at yesterday with my 72... sleeps, wishful thinking perhaps. Back on track now tho:rotfl:

Had some bad news late last night. Exactly 1 month to the day of getting the news that my friend had cancer she has passed away.:( Up until I last saw her a week ago it was hard to get your head around her being ill, then this last week she just went so fast. So strange how your life can change so quickly. Hope the rest of my 75 days goes without event!

So feeling a bit flat this morning, got to get my house in order as my kids have arranged for 5 visitors this weekend I think. It's a lovely day,I just need to get myself in gear.

Very frustrated to find I have no control of the new standing order to my mortgage, any more extra overpayments I make I'll have to phone up and ask them to do it as the online system refuses to recognise the account number. Nothing ever seems as simple as you think it should be.

Saved £60 a year downgrading my Sky but would really like to get rid of it alltogether. Need to win the family round though :(
