Debt-free and Proud!

Well that's the plan anyway....

I really need to stay focused and have a bit of accountability hence this diary.

Many years ago my sister talked me into getting my first creditcard after I got my first p.c. And that was stat of a slippery slope. The last ten years have been a it of an emotional blur with many members of my family dying, starting with the suicide of foreamentioned sister. The result of which has been a bit of a head in the sand approach to all things I didnt like to think about and online statements were so easy to not look at while I was 'comfort' buying.

Fortunately having read some other diaries I feel like I've come out the fog not 'too' badly scarred and have a total debt of £3083.52 as of today.

I've set up a plan get out by 29th Feb next year and hopefully can stick to it...

edited - new plan is 27th Jan!

  • Welcome to your shiny new diary ;)

I hope it manages to keep you focused
    Just keep swimming!
  • Ok on day one I spent £20.09 on a new fridge shelf, but I transferred that straight from my account to my card to cover it :) the old me would have bought the genuine smeg replacement at £90 on the card then 'forgot' about how much it cost. So major improvement, got a made to measure one at a fraction of the price.

    So total remains the same.

  • 226 sleeps to go....

Been battling with the desire to order 2 sacks of bird food this morning but have managed to fight it off so far. I can forecast in my money program and see when I can afford to buy them so am trying really hard to restrain myself till then.

Had a look back through my statements and see I started the year with £4361 on the card so am happy to have got down to nearly £3000 without being so focused on it. Checking the statements also made me realise I need to remove the card from google checkout!

Got some bids on my ebay listings :D

  • 225 sleeps to go....

Found myself needing to purchase a new airbed yesterday for a fast approaching camping trip. Managed to find it on sale £10 cheaper than anywhere else and the site accepted paypal so even better the money could come straight out of an account knew I had money in. This time last year it would have been stuck on the card and forgotten about.

In a bid to stay positive over the next 8 months I have totted up just how much trouble I could have gotten myself into and between my cards and next account I personally have £19150 available credit, so £3083/£19150 ain't looking bad!:j

Woo hoo!! 225 sleeps doesn't sound too bad, and I'm sure you'll manage to get there if you keep your eye on the goal!

Your available credit vs debt looks pretty good too - thats a good way to look at it! Will keep checking back on your journey to see how your getting on - best of luck! x
