    Not really...it's a freephone number. ;)

    lol oh right then....

Yea I should give them a ring... I wasn't going to bother because the fee will only be around £40, but I suppose that isn't very MSE either.... I'm lazy :o

Do they not think it's weird you ringing up customer loyalty straight away? I've never done it before....

Tell them you'd like to take them up on their offer, but doing so will actually cost you money because your debt is currently on 0.9% for a few months yet. ;)

If they won't budge, don't embarrass yourself by then taking the offer with the fee. Simply say thank you, hang up, and then action the SBT online. :)

  • Hello to you all,

I will soon be paying off my HSBC credit card which will leave me with a limit of £4,500.

I have balances on other cards I would like to transfer to it but was just wondering what kind of deals they are offering to existing customers at the moment? I have heard 7.9% being offered - is this for Life of Balance? Or, has anyone else had luck with a better rate being offered?

    Many thanks in advance,

    creditcardnewbie

I had an HSBC card and was offered 7.9% at the end of my fixed rate deal. I rang to see if they would improve it but no deal. I told them I was off and then did it but no joy. Think most banks would rather have cash at the moment as they are all scared about credit crunch. You may be better off elsewhere.

Thanks for your post Henwen - I was hearing about a lot of people being offered 7.9%.

No such luck for me though I am afraid - I cleared the balance, rang HSBC and they told me the best they could do was 14.9% for balance transfers - the APR currently on my card. I have been with HSBC for years and never once missed a payment and considered them very helpful when I rang in the past with queries.

I thought it may have been the rep I spoke to so I rang back at different times and spoke to 2 different reps and they told me exactly the same thing. I asked if there was any reason why they could not accomdate me for a balance transfer and they told me there was just "no deals on at the moment".

Needless to say the account is now closed - I am still in shock though. Thought they might have offered me something but no joy unfortunately.

Oh well, seems HSBC are just tightening the belt and being mean to loyal people. While we and our MSE-friends are proud of never missing payments, remember HSBC hate it - they have only earned the balance transfer fee from our credit cards - almost makes you feel sorry for them! (I did say almost!)

Well done for voting with your feet.

I have a 6.9% LOB offer from Barclaycard. There are no fees and there's no obligation to spend.

That said, it's not uncommon for lenders to offer various different deals at one and the same time. Irrespective of what anyone tells you here, it's your Ts & Cs which count ;)

I think you'll find all Barclaycard's BT offers are capped at £5k. If your credit limit is lower than £5k, you're restricted to 90% of that limit.

I don't think they mind you doing two transfers though...bizarrely...if you have more than 5K to BT and a limit that can cope with the 90% rule...

What's the current time-bound offer on Barclaycard at the moment, anyone?

Another question that's been on my mind : is anyone getting a 6.3% LOB rather than 6.9%...someone has mentioned getting that rate and I'm interested if that's a rate I should be pushing for when I do a BTonline, it's a straight 6.9% but it may be possible to do better over the phone...

    look forward to your thoughts;)

Interesting thread - thought I would check it out as I have been offered 5.9% LOB with no transfer fee on my NatWest Platinum card. I've had the card for years and also bank with NatWest. Reading through the most recent posts this seems like a good deal. The offer came via the mail. Have noticed some evidence of caution by the banks - got a letter from Goldfish saying they had reviewed my account and reduced my credit limit from £11100 to £1000. I'd almost forgotten I had the card and haven't used it for years so have returned it and asked them to cancel the account.
