I wrote to M&S Money to close the credit card account. Instead of doing this they sent me a new card and with the new card was a leaflet saying that my interest rate was 0% for the next 6 months on balance transfers. I phoned them up and asked if this was correct and they said no it was a mistake, my actual interest rate was 5.9% on balance transfers. So i asked them why they had sent me this leaflet and they couldnt answer. I then asked if they would give me a balance transfer at 0%. Eventually they came back and said they would this one time. So needless to say I took advantage of this and managed to put my £3600 tax bill on there (courtesy of Egg as a mule card) which i couldnt pay before. So im quite pleased.

Just phoned RBS, card has been at £0.00 for 3 months now. Normal classic card with APR of 15.9%.

Offered 8.9% LOB (no fee as I've got a current account with them). 95% of credit limit allowed to be transferred.

Not the best deal - but saves my getting a new card and is ideal for me.

  • I just got mbna 0% for six months. 2% charge and £35 cap
  • I was approved my Intelligent finance card today, in the effort to transfer the balance of my loan over to a reasonable 'life of balance' interest rate that slashed the cost of my existing loan. I followed the advice given on this site and was thoroughly impressed by the idea. Just one small snag, the maximum balance transfer is 90% of the credit limit - which is £1700 to anyone in the first six months at least. So its been a bit of a waiste of time really as my loan far exceeds this...back to square one. Any hints please?

I already had a Nationwide credit card on which I had cleared my balance. I was going to make a large purchase so I rang them to ask if they would give me 0% for 6 months, they said sorry new customers only! which I thought was ironic. Anyway, bought the tv on Nationwide, transfered to LLoyds on 0%, and now 6 months is up, will need to find new 0% BT card. Thinking about Capital 1 which expires Sept 2007.

..are offering 4.9% for Life of Balance with uncapped 2% fee (will only transfer up to 90% of credit limit also)

I received cheques in post with this offer (which carry the same terms including fee) but there is also a number to ring and a reference to quote

    Call 0845 600 3250
    Ref B3100623

(This is the 'best' offer from Halifax - although Sainsburys were offering 5.9 LOB with no fee until end of last year. If you just pay the same amount after the minimum payment it works out at about.. 5.83%.. but only over 5 years. Halifax have got their 2% up front)

My daughter recently wanted to transfer a balance from one of her cards, as it was made up from a lot of cash withdrawals, and the interest was really scary. She rang Virgin to check what balance transfer rate they could offer, and they said 0% until Jan 07. This despite the fact that until she cleared the last balance she had been paying interest at about 19%. She did query the rate, but was assured it was correct. Transfer was subject to a BT fee of 2% capped at £35.00. This is going to save her a great deal of money over the next 7 months. Just goes to show it's worth checking with your existing card providers before jumping to another.

Just made some calls to find out if I could get any Balance Transfer offers from my existing cards that I paid off a couple of months ago.

Got offered 5.9% for 6 months from M&S (no fee) - anyone had anything better from them? I've to phone back later when I've dug out the actual card to carry out the transfer.

Intelligent Finance had nothing to offer so account got closed.

Barclaycard offered me 6.9% LOB with no fee and upped my credit limit from by £700 to just under £3k (whopee! - ahem that was sarcasm :D) or a generous 0% till August 2006 with 2% fee (hmm)...
