I have 3k on a deal that's just finished, 2k on a 20% card, and the only credit i have available is on a LOB deal. If I transfer these balances onto that card, and then stright back using a deal, will I lose the LOB deal?

    Not following you here.

Are you looking to transfer 5k from two cards onto a 3rd LOB card?

20% over your limit? I'd be pretty tense too.

Just had a phone call from Virgin, paid off my pre-chritmas interest free spend last week, offered me 0% for 9 months 2,98% fee perfect timing for my 1 year 0% citi bank ending! Thanks Mr Branson
  • I transferred a balance to my new Platinum Simplicity Barclaycard within the promotional period, and was charged a 2.5% fee (£75). They're still advertising this card as fee-free for BTs so I sent them a quick secure message pointing this out and asking why I'd been charged. I had no response for 12 days so I nudged them, again via the secure message facility. Within 2 hours I had a phone call from them apologising, telling me it was indeed their mistake and they'd be refunding the BT fee.

My point is that if you find all is not quite as you expected, it's ALWAYS worth following it up and making sure you get the deal you signed up for. And I post this here too in case anyone else has had the same unexpected fee from Barclaycard.
Everything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

Ulster Bank offer by post: 1.9% for up to 12 months with 2.9% fee.

I'm an existing customer & the balance has been at £0 on this card for two months.

I'm not sure what I want to do! Pay as little interest as possible on as few cards as possible. But I think LOB is a more realistic option for me right now. But my original question was about the effect of moving a balance temporarily onto a LOB card, then back to the original card, to make use of a balance transfer offer. Would the LOB deal get messed up?

No, wouldn't mess up the LOB deal. You'd in effect be simply repaying LOB balance back sooner.

EDIT: The initial BT onto the LOB card may be a one-time only offer, or only available for X number of days from account opening, you'd need to check with the specific card.

I phoned Halifax and got the 4.94 LOB deal on the 2K balance, clearing that card so I can transfer the other 3K to it on a new deal, although not sure that's better than opening a new card with Santander which seems a very good deal - I'm running out of options for LOB having used all the best ones already!
