Hi I have a balance of 12450.00 on a life of balance at 2.95 with the halifax. They have just upped my limit giving me available credit of 2150. if I was to balance transfer 2000 at 4.9 what would happen to my 2.9 balance? Would I pay 2.9 on th 12450 and 4.9 on 2000 or 4.9 on the whole balance until the 2000 was paid off? thanks.

No, provided that you keep within your Ts & Cs, don't pay late or exceed your credit limit, the £12450 is charged at 2.95% for the life of the balance regardless of other transactions.

Is the latest 4.9% offer another LOB deal?

If so, the answer is yes and it could possibly save you money. How much depends on the rate currently charged on those borrowings, the time needed to clear the debt without this BT and whether you're charged a BT fee.

Caution: if the 4.9% offer is for a fixed period only (eg. 6 months), check the terms of the offer very carefully under order of payments. If you take up the new offer, there's every prospect that your existing transactions which currently cost 2.9%, would be paid off first, leaving the funds you've shifted attracting interest. (This rate remember would revert to your standard APR at the end of the promo period.)

This payment hierarchy is pretty standard across the cc industry, which is why it's not generally a good idea to have two different promotions running on the same credit card ;)

  • Tesco has just changed it deals for January offering some pretty decent offers from what myself and a few friends were offered

    We were offered:

    0% TILL NOV STATEMENT 2.99%FEE :T
    0% TILL AUG STATEMENT 2.99%FEE :j
    3.9% TILL NOV STATEMENT 2.99%FEE :o
    7.9% LOB NO FEE :D

Think they are pretty good in the whole and worth a look what do you think ?

I've had regular follow-on deals from Mint.

I was offered 6 months at 0% with 3% BT fee when I phoned customer services in June, intending to cancel. When I persisted, the cancellation team waived the transfer fee. (Obviously, for this to work, you have to be prepared to go ahead and close the account, if you don't get the offer you'd hoped for ... either that or undergo a rapid change of heart )

Within weeks of settling up, I've received cc cheques in the post which are charged at 0% until November 2010 provided that they're presented by the end of January 2010. A 3% handling fee applies.

Not a bad offer in the current climate, I'd say.

  • I've had an offer from Virgin and MBNA for 6.9 LOB with fee which I'm quite tempted at doing. Question is, their minimum payment used to be £25 regardless of amount owed (great for 0% APR deals) What will the minimum payment be if I transfered say £5000 or more?

Depends on your specific T&C's - current T&C's (http://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/credit-cards-v3/popup/summary.jsp) detail it as £25 or 1% of balance, whichever is greater.

  • went to close my halifax account and the same thing happened to me as well.. I took the offer as it saved me some good money
  • I have 3k on a deal that's just finished, 2k on a 20% card, and the only credit i have available is on a LOB deal. If I transfer these balances onto that card, and then stright back using a deal, will I lose the LOB deal?
