great thread. is anyone following the training plan on the website?
    TH
  • I have signed up to the southampton race for life! I am going to run it this year, last year I walked. I am going to kind of follow the training plan but build up to the longer runnng times a bit more gradually. I found the run 1 min walk 1 min harder than the next step of running for 2 minutes!

must really start getting back int the running (started last summer) but the weather is a bit off putting at the moment!

friends will keep me motivated though as I already have 1 sponser since sining up on monday.

Just a bit of advise, sign up for the online donation page, I did last year and was surprised just how many people sponsered me that I would never have got around to asking!

Hi - looking for some advice. I have signed up with my sister to do the Race for Life. I was diagnosed with skin cancer on 22 January & am having another little op on 14th Feb to remove some more skin. Although the type i have is potentially fatal it is curable & I am very grateful to the NHS for the swift way I have been treated. Also my collegue at work has a very sick 2 year old who has a cancerous brain tumor so I want to do it for her too.

Now to be blunt I aint no size 10!!!! :rotfl: Neither is sis but we plan to walk with my young nieces & baby nephew. Do alot of people walk? Despite what people say about overweight people I am healthy & walk alot. I also intend to get walking at the weekends, build up that stamina! What else should I do?

I am quite excited :j about this whole thing - feel good about giving someting back although my cancer is far less important than other people.

I would be interested to hear your experiences! :T
    NEVER ASSUME!
  • Loads of people walk so dont worry you wont be alone! you will be fine, me and my mum walked last year (and attempted to run the last 500m which was difficult due to laughing so much as my mums trousers kept nearly falling down!) and did the 5km course in 1 hour.

good luck with your treatment, hope all goes well x

  • Thanks for reminding me about this. Did it for the first time last year and will definitely be doing it again - walking this time too.
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

I found it really exciting being among the thousands of people all there raising money for such a good cause and its emotional reading all the signs that eveyone has on their backs dedicating there efforts to loved ones!

Make sure you arrive early as there are so many people and that way you will be there in time for the warm up. I am running it for the first time this year too.

Best of luck to all those taking part and happy fundraising!
