Hello ladies
It's taken me a while but here is a pic of Izzy at 48hrs and three weeks old
She's got reflux/colic, and prefers to sleep on me which is a bit of a nightmare at times. She also has the uncanny ability to sense when I'm writing an email or forum post wherever I am in the house which is why it's taken so long.
Anyway I've finally managed to post my birth story too.
Noticed the talk about bfing. I know at our hospital they want you to feed them the colostrum so will push you to bf initially but tend to be more pragmatic after that. They also do have formula stashed away for special cases as my friend who had a lot of trouble getting her LO to feed got given some, but would prob expect you to bring your own if you're bottlefeeding.
If I hadn't got such great support (other mums and a friend who is a bfing counsellor) I think I may have given up, or at least switched to mixed feeding. The midwives in the hospital weren't generally very helpful despite being pro bfing.
My milk didn't actually come in properly until day 5/6 so Izzy dropped 14% of her birth weight. I was put on daily midwife visits and was told to wake her to feed every 2/3 hrs. Unfortunately no-one told Izzy she should be waking then, she preferred to clusterfeed for 4 hrs or so then sleep for ages, it was so stressful, I was expressing and cup/syringe feeding trying to get enough in her. In the end if the midwife had weighed her a day later it would have been fine. Once my milk did come in (no-one has ever been so happy for their breasts to start leaking!) she put on 50g a day when the target is 30g, little gannet lol
skint_catt I've just started expressing as they say you shouldn't introduce the bottle for the first month if you want to keep bfing. Hats off to all of you who bottlefeed, just doing one bottle a day with all the sterilising and stuff is doing my head in. Mind you I'm rather sleep deprived so everything is a challenge atm lol.
Anyway off to attempt a shower now if she'll let me! Good luck / labour vibes to everyone who needs them x0 -
With DS1 I bf'd for the majority of the time except his last feed before bed which was formula. Seemed to fill him up and he slept through (10-6) from about 3 weeks old. I had to stop bf'ing and go exclusively to formula at about 7 weeks, not because he was confused but because he was so hungry! Also he was on baby rice from about 8 weeks, can't imagine I'll be allowed to start weaning that early with this one! I'm going to try bf'ing but I've already told the breastapo (who started harrassing me about a month ago) that I'm going to do what works for my baby, not what the "professionals" think I should do. Its such a personal thing and I really don't think they should be allowed to put so much pressure on mums.
I'm off to see my GP in a bit, just feeling too off colour to ignore it I think.0 -

On breastfeeding- I've only had the one consultation at the hospital so far, and the midwife up there did sit and discuss everything with us. With breastfeeding, she spent about ten mins telling us pros and cons, and said our hospital would prefer b'feeding, but wouldn't pressure if it wasn't your choice.
Fair enough to them for being upfront and direct about it- I'd prefer that. She never mentioned whether milk would be provided or not though.0 -
SVsandy is this the moses basket you ordered? http://www.marksandspencer.com/Toy-Shelf-Moses-Basket-Set/dp/B003FWLZ68?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_11&nodeId=818737031&sr=1-11&qid=1310600601&pf_rd_r=1P7RWZPVCEHQ9XKX4SDC&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=818737031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3
Showing as in stock and cheaper?
Yes that's the one but it's showing as OOS when I click into in. It's a nice size too so really gutted that it's missing bits.0 -
Not had a chance to read back but just popping in to let everyone know that I gave birth to Brody on 7/7/2011 born weighing 7lb 2 n a half oz at 6.13 am.we were breastfeeding to start with but due to lack of support at the hospital and my son having a suck like a dyson we are now bottle feeding.so in love with him and just can't believe he's here now.
Labour was not what I expected ,had a sweep on the Tuesday pm and felt dull period pain all night and all day wednesday, went in to get checked over on wed pm as pain had increased, didn't get to go home, was given tablets to help sleep and woke up with waters popping, pressed buzzer and got all the staff shocked as i had progressed to 8 n a half cms!OH had to be called to come back in,he had only just gone to bed lol.then I was rushed from ward to delivery suite,no time for pain relief .will post birth story and pics when i get a chance, but just wanted to let everyone know that we are all doing well.
XxxThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
