Sorry OP. I don't want to sound harsh but welcome to the real world and we all manage on a hell of a lot less .:)

    No problem.

What puzzles me though is that among my peers I observe something completely opposite: mothers not working or working part-time, families living in nice houses, kids in private schools, holidays in Florida. How on Earth do they do that?

Investment banker husbands? Whom I also see around the school at the pick-up so obviously not working 24/7 either...

I honestly think that you should stand back and take look at what you have already Despera . You live in a different world to many people .

It irks me that you can post a thread about this and if i am honest , I think your on a wind up judging by your thread title . Sorry but I am bowing out after your above post .

I agree that you sound terribly tired (having been there in the past). It makes it very difficult to think clearly and decide if something is a problem and what needs to be done.

Some of the things are difficult to do anything about.., so try and stop letting them drag you down. There's only point in letting yourself get stressed about things u can do something about.., u are tired enough already. If you weren't so tired, however much u wanted the second job that seems to be the straw that broke the camels back in a sense., u'd be able to cope with the imperfections we all have in our lives. Just close your eyes to the things u can do nothing about.., we all have to do it.

    Despera,

I would advise seeing a lifecoach :) They can help you work out your priorities and identify goals, help with time management and generall help you get things in perspective. (I know a good one, let me know if you'd like the details).

    Take care BM :) x

thats out of order. compared to people in africa who have no water to drink having to make 8 servings out of a pound of mince makes you sound like a spoilt child who doesnt know how lucky you have it. having more money than others doesnt mean you have no problems.

That's kind of what I was inferring. I don't know why you say I was out of order.

Op is upset because she hasn't got enough money for a £450k house, and can't put her bab through private school.
    Join the club I say.
We all want to best for a children but we can't all afford the best there is and have to accept it.
I know what it's like in Africa I've seen it for myself. My hubby was one of the soldiers who had to bury African people in tractorloads during the Sedan crisis that triggered Live Aid. The smell of death lingers for a long time doesn't it.
We're not rich by any means moneywise, but we have the world's riches..

Stop nosing other people and pay more attention to your life?

Not sure if you are a major wind up merchant - but I'll presume not.

Many of us earn or earnt a pretty penny in our time; use it or save it. You make your life choices - buy a new car if you want one, buy some shoes if you want them, use a taxi to get the kids to school if you don't have time and want them in 'better' schools.

However - one word of warning. Money is NOT everything...and when you have got it don't assume it will be around forever. Your kids would rather have you around than up all hours or dead early from a heart attack from all the worry.

There is nothing wrong with going to state schools. There is nothing wrong with having an older car. There is nothing wrong with keeping the pennies in the bank.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Well, hope you got your project completed last night, Despera:)

You need to take a bit of time out, look at your life and try and get more of a work/life balance. Perhaps take yourself off for a few days on one of those 'retreat' type things?

You're putting far too much pressure on yourself to provide a perfect life for you all.

Also a gentle warning: I would say you need to take care of your own health (physical and mental), - if you're working all the hours God sends something's got to give.

Another one who hopes that you finished the project and can deliver on time Despara!

I can see myself in you - last night you KNEW you had a deadline - but you just HAD to come on the board - I used to call it displacement therapy!

At the moment, you are cash rich, time poor - so my solution - short time only though - would be to throw cash at the problem - pay someone to come in, clean and organise the house. If necessary, employ a part-time nanny/babysitter for when you need to work in the evenings and your OH isn't home from work.

I do also agree with the suggestion that you get yourself to the doctor's to get yourself checked out - and try and work out some "us" time for you and your OH!

    Good luck.

I think what the OP is saying is that they earn a good salary and work their butts off and don't seem to be any closer to achieving their preferred lifestyle.
I understand a little with you. My husband has a great salary, we have a lovely house and I'm fortunate to be a stay at home mum but we don't have the lifestyle that some people seem to have. I've friends who have an extensive wardrobe, a couple of holidays a year and new cars but we don't. The kids have everything they need but me and the hubby are losing out in the fashion stakes ;).
Just be aware that you have no idea if these people you're envious of are actually able to say they aren't up to their necks in debt.
Having a 450k house is all well and good but it'll make you happy for a while and then you'll be onto the next dream.
You say your happy doing your night job. Is this not something you could turn into a full time project so you could eliminate the full time job you have at the moment, especially if the night job is well paid?

    Something's not adding up.

At best, you need to prioritise better right now.

It's amazing, some people can actually do other things as well as posting a few comments on a forum. It's hardly like just sitting here refreshing the page waiting for a reply, is it?
