My sister never had a holiday abroad, she couldnt because she was so ill and had to be near an A&E unit at all times, they once nearly bought a house but pulled out when they found out it would take longer than 10 minutes to get to hospital in rush hour as her consultants always insisted she lived within 10 minutes of hospital.

Yes indeed as we needed to to when my daughter was at her worst. She was on a self admit scheme, at the hospital, and the first few times we called an ambualnce but thereafter we relaised it was quicker to take her. Bad days -- very bad days they were!

OP, if I were you, I'd be putting all my effort into getting the best treatment possible for your asthma.

Sorry wheezy I have to agree with stockwire on this one, of course disabled people are able to go on holiday, but from your description, you saying you are too ill to leave the house etc, it sounds like a trip to Euro Disney on the 30th of this month would be an impossibility for you. I am not being nasty, although it may sound like I am, but what would the DLA people think if one day you are telling them you need their money because you are too ill to do anything, and the next you are having a jolly old time with the kids at Euro disney.

Just to clarify the post about Disneyland paris was posted on behalf of my sister, i posted it was for me as why beat about the bush and worry that people will be judging you when this is supposed to be a forum to help people not to criticize what they have put in posts with out the full back ground, at the time i wrote that i was new and didnt know how the system worked and didnt know that by putting a post trying to help my sister out as i myself have never been abroad would cause hassle?

Like i have mentioned in previous posts im not even able to go out the house let alone run around after kids at Disneyland, and with my health needs it would probably cost me more on medical insurance then it would a holiday.

Oh and one other thing whats to say that if it was me going to disneyland that i wasn't going with a carer and getting about in a wheelchair and using a porta neb?

And i have a friend with terminal cancer less than 6 months to live he gets high rate care and mobility, has just flew off to Portugal am now wondering if he should be able to do this seeming that he has care and mobility needs?

In reply to a previous poster yes i have been in ITU 4times in the last 5 ys because of my asthma, am currently being assessed for oxygen therapy, i have scaring on my lungs from having Pneumonia several time and a lot of chest infections also suffer from pleurisy quite regularly, currently taking 40mg steroids daily, singulair tabs, Ventolin and flixotide nebs, symbicort inhaler seretide inhaler, Spiriva inhaler, Aminophylline tabs and still I'm no better.

I can't see what's so wrong with being able to take a holiday while on DLA.

Such organisations as the Makke A Wish Foundation takes terminally ill kids to places like Disneyland all the time.

There's nothing at all wrong with taking a holiday whilst on DLA.

Claiming that you're too ill to leave the house as a reason for getting DLA is, however, somewhat at odds with arranging to go away to Eurodisney with the kids, so it's not surprising people have taken issue with this. It gives the impression that the OP isn't actually as badly off as she has claimed.

Why bother when they booked it without having oneso mustny have needed one?

Not forgetting that trying to get medical insurance is difficult.

Go to appeal. They immediately think asthma is mild as fortunately for many it is but I too know severe asthma. Unfortunately you need to provide the evidence as to what severe asthma means to you and the additional care and mobility needs you have. But please get support somehow as you do be it a welfare rights worker, specialist nurse or whoever as it is hard going admitting the real effects.

I couldnt have put it better myself. Lodge your appeal and start gathering evidence as the previous OP mentioned
    Best of luck

Sorry, reading the post on the link and this, both written in the same style with the same spelling mistakes, I have reached for the auto shut off button.

If the post about Euro Disney was on behalf of your sister you should have made that clear really, its been mentioned numerous times that staff from DWP, DLA WTC and CTC as well as other benefit organisations, read these forums, supposing, just supposing they have read your post, checked on the other posts you have made, put two and two together and found the real you? As in real name address etc, supposing someone you know, friend, maybe disgruntled relative (not saying you have any disgruntled relatives just using it as an example) have read what you have been posting and got in touch with DLA, you just never know.

As for mentioning the terminally ill patient going to Portugal, nothing wrong with that at all, as was said, there are organisations to help people go on holiday, those who have a terminal illness, those who are disabled through losing limbs and other such disibilities can, and have every right to go on holiday, its those who say they can barely get off the sofa, find it hard to look after their children, cant walk a few yards without collapsing or getting out of breath, they are the ones who look dubious and make doubt appear.

Yes of course you could have a carer with you, have a portable neb, but that wasnt mentioned in the holiday post, but then again you said it was written on behalf of your Sister so why should it be mentioned eh?
