    Completely agree.

TBH anyone who needs to carry round a nebuliser (I'm sure were talking full face mask job and not the little spray cannisters) has far worse symptoms than the ordinary asthma sufferer.

THB my time of asking for help on these boards for disability problems is coming to an end due to the increasing number of ignorant responses people get. Mainly from the Daily Mail readers/Conservative supporters who seem to believe (through listening to the vicious lies of the Tory government and it's propaganda outlet the Daily Mail) everyone claiming/attempting to claim DLA etc is a scrounger and isn't really disabled/ill.

IMO it is far better for people to join a forum which deals specifically with their illness/disability. There is likely to be lots of help re claiming the correct benefits on there from people who have very similar problems who can advise.

As with everything useful in this world, it is being spoiled by the ignorant minority.

Sorry dont know how to clip certain bits of posts, but this is aimed at the part where you say ignorant responses come from daily mail readers ect. I believe that is the wrong thing to say.

A lot of the responses on here (not all I may add) are not ignorant, just because they tell it how it is does not mean they are ignorant or uncaring.
There are thousands out there who DO claim DLA when they dont need it, bloody good actors who can feign mental or even physical illness when they need to, I dont know if things have changed much in the last few years but when my sister filled out the form for DLA she had to be medicaly examined by 3 DLA doctors who came to her house, she had to give consultant and all the evidence from scans and hospital visits, she couldnt just fill out a form, say she had a disabling illness and they gave her the benefit just like that.

If a person has applied for DLA twice and been refused twice surely there is something in that! If someone applies and is given the low rates of both or either componant, then why do they think they have to apply again to get the high rates of both? Surely after being examined and what have you, its been found they only need what they have been given.

DLA is over stretched as it is, those who dont really need it shouldnt get it, those who are in dire need of help should be the ones who are top of the list. I am not saying the OP doesnt need help, as I said before when she posted a while ago, my Husband has COPD, he couldnt walk 5 yards without gasping for breath and turning blue, he couldnt even have a bath or shower, he could never ever be on his own in case he had a serious attack and needed an ambulance, he was refused DLA, the reason given was, there is medication that can help him.

He changed his GP and WAS given the proper medication, he is now 100% better and has even returned to work, if it wasnt for the refusal and the reasons given we would never have known there was help out there. Maybe the OP should see a different medical professional and get the proper medication, that could be the answer as no amount of money would make the illness go away.

Just to clarify Asthma is a very common illness and the majority of people have mild yet there is a small percent that do struggle on a daily basis, and i am one of them.

I would rather be able to breathe and run round the park with my kids than be sitting holed up indoors as i am to out of breath to go out the front door.

Don't judge others until you have walked in their shoes!!!!!!!!

If you had the ATOS assessment then they seem to go with how an illness affects the majority rather than the individual, especially if the majority is not a severe case, even if you didn't then the DM may have done the same, gone with how the condition affects the majority. I would always appeal and remember no matter what your appeal is about what happened on the day of assessment if assessed by ATOS. Get a copy of the report and the score sheet to see where if any points where awarded.
The space on the DLA forms to put in all the information is far from adequate and IMO designed to make it impossible for anyone to give enough information to pass with or without a medical.

You only have 1 month from the date on the letter to appeal the decision so if you are going to appeal get form GL24 ASAP and before the letter arrives if you can.
Someone please tell me what money is

I can't believe I get the spanish inquisition for telling someone from the JCP that I was on a bus when I had claimed on my DLA form that I couldn't get around without help (and i was with my sister at the time btw) but then there are people who claim to be unable to walk a few yards and want DLA for asthma, unbelievable. I'll swap your asthma for my place on the heart transplant list any day of the week.

I hope you get your heart transplant but just think it could be from a donor who died through a asthma attack as 1500 die each year.

What was that i hear you say asthma is not life threatening??

I genuinely hope you get your heart transplant soon and that you are able to run around the park with your kids, and i hope one day there will be a cure for asthmatics or even free prescriptions so we too can run around the park and play with our kids.

I can't have kids, the strain that carrying a child would put on my heart would kill us both.

The consultants have told me that I wouldn't ever have children because of major problems with blood circulation. Even with a heart transplant the blood flow to my pelvis probably wouldn't be adequate to support a pregnancy. Couple that with the immunosupressive drugs and the cocktail I need to take to stay functioning it probably wont ever happen.

Oh and I only get free prescriptions because I live in Scotland. Being on the transplant list doesn't get you free prescriptions, you need to pay for all of the drugs yourself except one that you get direct from the hospital pharmacy.

Don't get me on the subject of free prescriptions for the supported countries ;-)

I hope you get your treatment tomorrow. I have two friends who had heart and lung (never knew why lungs get done, they said for some reason), anyway, I digress. They both live a full and great life and I am sure you could too. Apart from being in that could country, far too brass monkey for me.

How sad that this country is turning into a selfish uncaring one. People dont seem to realise that the more they belive the politians lies about benefit scroungers the more power the goverment has to cut them. It will affect everyone at some point unless they are very well off.
We need to support each other and give constructive advice. Nobody is perfect we all have our own flaws.
As for dla it is a hard benefit to get and you have to have evidence to back up your claim. Nobody gets dla without a doctor seeing you.
Op I would appeal and only you know how difficult your situation is.
