Asda - ripping you off then covering it up

I recently purchased a cooking tray from Asda - price 97p. Not the most expensive item in the world.
The total bill exceeded $141 , so I didn't have time to check the receipt.
When I got home, several miles away - I checked the receipt and found that I had been overcharged $5 for that one item.
Clearly there was an error on the barcode. I didn't have the time to return to the store so I wrote a letter, enclosing proof of purchase, barcode etc. expecting the ususal apology letter and a refund.
Nothing.
Ring consumer services - tell me to write a letter.
Write another letter - again nothing.
Send 3 further emails - nothing at all. Not even an acknowledgement.
I've not been back to Asda since, so they have lost my $100 a week shop to Tesco.
Given I sent the originals (stupidly) I now have no proof. So beware shoppers don't shop at Rip off ASDA, and if you must check your receipts and sort out issues on site.

Sounds like an awful lot of work for a fiver, especially as you were going back the week after and could've taken the receipt with you! As its turned out you've lost your fiver and the price of 2 stamps. Hardly a good week in the life of a MSE. LOL0 -
I opened a pack of asda tortillas and found them to be mouldy although within date, the store would only offer to refund the cost so I emailed asda and had a standard email back saying the same,
I then wrote another email detailing the bother this had caused, the meal it had spoiled etc and how their customer care seemed to have deteriorated since being taken over by walmart, I received £25 asda vouchers in the post.
Emails won't cost so it may be worth persuing it.
Another option could be to use this complaints service http://www.howtocomplain.co.uk/ which I've used in the past.I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Never mind the complaints service.........maybe we should all get glad to complain for us, £25 vouchers for mouldy tortillas is effective!

I have now taught my mother in law to check her reciepts from any supermarket and we found especially morrisons/safeways 8 out 10 shops there something has gone through at the wrong price or offer not been fulfilled and sometimes it can be to the tune of £3. I know its not asda but came home the other day fuming, i got 2 packets of cold meat sign on shelf said £1.49 so lifted 2 packets, one scanned at right price and the other scanned at £2.49 so i queried it - replie basically was thats not possible its the same barcode you must have bought something else nope i hadnt and told her to look through shopping which she looked into one bag, then went off and checked shelf and came back telling me offer had finished it was the wrong offer anyway and just to be gratefull i got one at the lower price:mad: so i told her to refund the one that was full price and she wasnt too happy but done it, so its not just asda. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Maybe a lot of work for a fiver but its the principal of being ripped off by a large store.
I've always found that writing seems to have a better effect than going to customer services (although if I had realised at store I would have).
Anyhow persistence pays I have at least had a reply to one of my four emails.
They're looking into it - I won't hold my breath.0 -
our tescos have a habit of this.. i always check my receipt now as im sick of hassles .. i check it on the way out as i have to pass customer services so if its wrong they get a visit and as you have the stuff you just bought then they cant argue its wrong..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

that was safeway's favourite trick "sorry, offer finished last week." i produce the leaflet with offer clearly stated and in date, then spend 15 minutes arguing...
i assume morrisons now employ the same tactics, i don't know as i refuse to set foot in one of their stores.

Whenever I have been overcharged in Asda the customer services desk have been very helpful,- apologise , refund difference & gift card for the inconvenience.
maybe I've just been lucky?0
