I feel the original families there and those unaware of the outbreak should be supported and compensated for loss and distress.

Why should Butlins compensate for loss/distress? People could have caught this virus anywhere, it's not only at Butlins, people get it in schools, hospitals, anywhere there is contact with others. Fair enough Butlins have said they will refund people if they've had to leave early, but do they really have to compensate for anything further?

They seem to have done what they could to prevent it spreading, how is it their fault more people got it? It would have spread regardless.

Also to add, I refuse to believe they did not clean the pool after someone was sick. We was there and a kiddie pooed in the pool and it was shut and everyone was out within seconds and the pool closed!!

If people are getting ill it could be that they have gone out, been to the pub/beach/shops and mixed with people not staying on site and bought it back to Butlins and so the cycle starts again because of people being in close proximity to each other. As someone has noted, it is not just in Butlins that this virus exists so I think people need to get a grip and do the sensible thing and just change the holiday date.

Was just going to say the same about the pool - they close it if a baby has a poo in it, so they will definitely have closed it to clean sick - who would believe otherwise!!

It costs around £15,000 to change the water in a swimming pool....

Would probably cost them a damn sight more if poo got into someones eyes because they had not cleaned it.....

Yes I know, I am :eek::eek::eek::eek: at the thought too.

We have actually been in the pool when everyone has been chucked out and the pool closed for cleaning. Annoying but a small part of you always thinks 'I hope that was not my child's poo'.

Seriously? Our local pool closes for cleaning from baby poo accidents almost weekly, surely they wouldn't be paying that much a time, they'd never make any money.

No it all it takes is chlorus to clean it up,the pool would not have to be drained a small job with hardly any cost.Back to the issue butlins have an adult weekend this weekend so basically you'll have 4000 people drunk having a good time with personal hygiene(washing hands)the last thing they'll be thinking of,i think they should've closed the park for the weekend and give each and every room a good clean so the weekly holiday makers arriving on the monday with children have half a chance of not catching the virus after all an adult weekend is a messy one, another 4 new cases down there today, after the weekend how many then?

To be fair to butlins it does sound like they are doing their best to help control the spread but ultimately it's a virus - something they have little control over.

With regards to them giving refunds to people who have decided to leave I think they're being quite fair. After all don't most people buy travel insurance to cover situations like these. Holidaying in the UK is no different to holidaying abroad (other than the weather :)). The exception to this in my eyes is where Butlins have asked someone to leave.

It is horrible though for all the people that are ill and I can completely understand the concern of those who are due to be holidaying at Butlins.
Itotally agree you should have insurance and i do you've just missed the point that the park is still open and the insurance company dont want to know,i just dont see it justifiable, when theres an out break in a hospital it closes to visitors yet when theres an outbreak at butlins its a case of heres your dirty infected room enjoy your stay!!!!!!!

I live in Bognor and norovirus is really rife in schools and workplaces at the moment, loads of people have had it. I'm hearing similar things from other towns too. Even if Butlins is clean, people will come into town and then go back to the camp bringing in more germs. It doesnt help that everyone things they can just use anti-bac on their hands and not bother washing them:mad:

Yes, and they have made that choice to travel and stay there.

With a hospital there are usually sick and vunerable people there that could die quite quickly if they caught it.

A school or workplace does not close if someone has it, they send you home. There is no H&S report to be done, life carries on as usual.

Butlins have made it clear that the rooms have been cleaned, however, you travel and chance your luck on not getting it. Some people just thin it'll never happen to them.

There are around 5000 people there and 200 people have it. That is 0.5% of guests. At my childrens school last year 20 kids out of 120 had it - that is around 18%.

I think this is being blown WAY out of proportion.
