  • Thanks for that last one Outpost.

Just as a reminder to everyone reading this, can you make sure you are reporting the ones you see? You wouldn't believe how often we see someone say "why hasn't MSE done something?" and the post in question hasn't actually been reported.

    Thank you!

What Browntoa was subjected to went far beyond anything anybody else on MSE was subjected to. MSE has allowed this person to return repeatedly and subject others to similar abuse....why? I repeat Martin Lewis has a duty of care to the people who works for him and he has failed miserably.

I do wholeheartedly agree about the abusive posts. Thinking about it, I may have seen some of the filth spouted against Browntoa - something to do with the revolting Gary Glitter? I didn't pay close attention as I found it so sickening.

I'm sorry that DMG24 seems to be in the firing line just lately; I've always found their posts to be quite helpful. I think our triple-headed nemesis might have had a pop at DMG too.

I also, however, agree with MSE Andrea. It's important to report all the posts (which I'm sure many did in the case we're talking about). I know that it can seem so wrong for these folk to slip through the net again and again but, when one considers the VAST number of active users, with hundreds (maybe thousands) of new users signing up each day, the task of banning the few weeds from the massive flower meadow is incredible. I think the mods do good work - I've seen site forums that are far less well-policed than here.

I'd rather have the MSE where the odd troll or nutter gets through the net sometimes, than no MSE at all.

    Keep smiling. xx

I think the problem currently being posed by the user in question is that they seem to be waging some sort of campaign in their free hours using literally dozens of different usernames to post the most disgusting abuse directed towards existing members, much of that abuse involving uncomfortable references to piaedophilia.

This person appears to work 'normal' hours and come 5ish during the working week resumes their assault on the boards. Yes we can pity the individual that their existence is so pathetic as to drive them to doing this in their spare time, but I have more sympathy for the genuine users who are being targeted with such vile abuse on a daily basis.

It is made even more difficult to stomach when the person is taunting people with statements such as 'why even bother banning me I have hundreds of usernames' and 'there's nothing you can do to stop me' and so forth.

Let's not get this out of proportion, shall we? The troll's a pathetic idiot, but they're only words. And this is only an Internet forum, people aren't being abused in the street.

You need to separate your virtual world from your real world.

I see. In that case we should do away with the whole concept of taking action against abusive posts then since "they're only words" and anyone who takes offence at being repeatedly targeted with vile abuse should merely 'separate their virtual world'.

No one is saying that abusive posts on the internet are akin to being abused in the street. Your statement makes for a passable, if unimaginative soundbite but it adds no real perspective to what is being discussed, just as if I were to dismiss a person being verbally abused in the street as something they should simply ignore because it isn't as serious as being shot at with a machine gun.

We can always reference something that is worse, but this adds nothing of value to the discussion.

You may feel that MSE members being targeting with this disgusting abuse on a daily basis is a minor issue and that the fault somehow lies with them for being offended, that is your opinion and you are of course entitled to it. Others feel differently and I'm afraid that their opinions hold equal validity with your own. :)

So why do you give these two people, yes there are two with different agenda's, credence by linking to their threads, posting on the threads, baiting them and even your signature refers to one?

The majority of MSE users will never have seen any of the threads or abusive posts but by discussing them here and worse, copying and pasting some of the posts, gives them the attention they crave.

Just my opinion of course, use the report button and ignore them.

So the procedure is that a warning is given to a forum member, that member must then send a 'polite email' to the forum team, who will send a PM back to the member telling them what they did to deserve a warning?

    Seems a bit clunky doesn't it? :)

    Ditto

Is this message long enough now ? :)
