I'd suggest they give some regular users the power (wrong word I know) to delete/lock posts that are obviously from this nutter.
I'd suggest they simply temporarily expand the responsibilities of a few of the other forums' board guides (perhaps those from quieter forums) to include Praise, Vents and Warnings since the current board guide assigned to the forum is apparently working alone and is understandably unable to be online constantly.

Fortunately the spammer's activities seem to be targeted almost exclusively at the Praise, Vents and Warnings forum (and its users) so the problem isn't widespread. It would make sense for board guides and admins to keep the forum on a 'tighter leash' for the moment surely? :)

If this has only been recently brought to the attention of ML...somebody is not doing their job in MSE Towers. Browntoa works for MSE albeit in an unpaid capacity and ML should have be pursuing this nutter ages ago.

I tend to agree..but they'd need to be brought up to speed with the history of this waste of space and have the balls to be ruthless when dealing with their posts.

They will post after 5pm tonight.

Strange. another person used the f word yesterday and he is still posting :(
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=44294062&postcount=5

Whilst not condoning swearing I think a far bigger and more systematic abuse is multiple id's....

Sometimes the individuals who operate these don't even have the wit or brains to change posting style. Some people who operate these multiple id's complain in masse using thier different id's

It's unimaginative and childish, what do you think ?.

Personally i feel sorry for them....

I completely agree with you, but I think that the situation that has developed in the Praise, Vents and Warnings board of late is becoming a little more serious than minor things 'slipping through the net'.

This person is creating literally dozens upon dozens of alternate usernames (even to the point where they are using identical profile pictures with hair scribbed onto the new one and so on) and proceeding to post the most hideous abuse directed at other posters night after night. I myself was the target last night, DCFC79 was the target of the abuse the night before, the board guide Browntoa not so long ago...

I appreciate the whole 'hopefully they'll stop' approach but to be honest this doesn't seem to be working, and I would suggest that a more robust approach (as per the forum rules that talk of contacting ISPs etc) may be required.

As a member of the site I don't feel that it is acceptable to have this sort of vehement abuse directed at me, or indeed others. I know we can go down the route of 'this is a privately-owned site that owes you nothing so feel free to leave if you don't like it' but surely this is not the message we want to send out to members being targeted by this extremely abusive and persistent spammer?

Perhaps assigning some new board guides to the Praise, Vents and Warnings forum to keep things in check a little more closely (not moderate, simply close threads that become abusive as per their current duties) since one of the two board guides currently assigned to the board has been inactive for four months. At least until the board is brought back under control?

Yes they do a good job on the whole...but this guy is seriously taking the urine and should be taken to Court by MSE as per MSE T&C's. Did you see the vile abuse they subjected Browntoa to? I suspect not.

Thanks Outpost and Gordikin. I didn't see what was written about Browntoa actually, although I did see what was written about DCFC79, you (Outpost), Pulliptears, plus others. From what's been said on this thread about it I am quite glad that I didn't see the offensive remarks about Browntoa. I also recall that the poster in question said that he'd sent "Jack the Ripper" to get me - but that is nothing compared to his abuse of those previously mentioned. I agree that such levels of foul abuse as that to which you and the other victims were subjected is completely and utterly unacceptable. Distressing and completely unwarranted.

It was an extreme example - and I do feel that he should have been banned from the site at the IP "root", preventing him from making additional AEs. Not just for our sakes - but also for his own, as he clearly doesn't have a well mind and banning him outright could have given him pause to consider that perhaps there WAS something unacceptable about what he was doing. But perhaps I am being too generous.

I still think that, despite the late incidents, the MSE forum is generally a very helpful place to be and shouldn't be subject to over-draconian 'policing'. Perhaps some 'sub-moderators' for certain boards (those with more potential for controversial topics) might be an idea - 'sub-mods' having the power to ban unacceptable posts at an early stage, so that they disappear until subjected to confirmation or reinstatement by the overall moderator.

Also, thankfully, there are more good folks than bad on here. x

What Browntoa was subjected to went far beyond anything anybody else on MSE was subjected to. MSE has allowed this person to return repeatedly and subject others to similar abuse....why? I repeat Martin Lewis has a duty of care to the people who works for him and he has failed miserably.

Just to confirm that the level of abuse directed at Browntoa was absolutely hideous. Although the comments that are being directed at whomever happens to be the target on a given evening aren't too far behind.

The 'ignore them and maybe they'll go away' approach appears to be working wonders.
